2022 EAST COUNTY PREP FOOTBALL

ECS staff report

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego County Football Officials Association has announced changes to the football schedule due to a shortage of officiating teams.

According to the assignment secretary, approximately four games per week have been changed from Fridays to Thursdays.

A handful of high school conferences, particularly the Grossmont Conference, have been quite helpful to this growing problem — a lack of game officials in high school sports across the country.

Last week, there were three East County ballgames witched — Mount Miguel, Steele Canyon and West Hills.

This week, a pair of Grossmont Valley League ballclubs played on Thursday: Santana hosted undefeated Fallbrook at Santee Community Stadium, while El Cajon Valley entertained Montgomery at Priest Field.

Of course, there are always a handful of games already slated for Thursday, including 8-man San Diego Jewish Academy, which does not play after sunset on Fridays for the Sabbath. This includes a Week Six meeting with Foothills Christian at Seau Field.

Future changes are possible, but for now, here are the changes to Thursday night for the balance of the regular season.

WEEK SIX
