EL CAJON – High school basketball highlights for Sat., Feb. 4, 2023:

Boys Basketball

The Bishop’s 61, Foothills Christian 57
At West Hills HS: The FCHS Knights came close in their upset bid of TBS Knights, falling just short in Coastal League action. Foothills Christian rolled up 23 points in the fourth quarter in what has been a tight, defensive affair. However, The Bishop’s senior Tyler Hagan scored nine of his game-high 34 points in the final stanza so the visitors from the other end of State Hwy. 52 could escape. The leading scorers for FCHS were Angel Escarcega (23 points) and Julian “JuJu”: Lebel (20 points, plus 12 a career-high assists).

Kearny 57, Mount Miguel 46 – The visiting Komets of Gen. Stephen Watts Kearny High defeated the Mount Miguel Matadors – no eport.

Girls Basketball

Valhalla 41, at Madison 40
At Madison: It was near déjà vu for both schools, after Valhalla allowed a late lead to slip away at West Hills on Tuesday, while Madison rallied late to nip Patrick Henry on Friday. In this contest, both happened, however, Valhalla’s 9-point lead entering the final quarter proved to be just enough despite the Warhawks out-scoring the Norsemen, 12-4, over the final right minutes. Individual highlights were (again) not reported.

Helix 44, Lincoln 36 36
At Mater Dei Catholic: The Highlanders  (17-7 overall) ran their latest winning streak to four straight in preparations for Friday’s regular-season finale  at home against Mount Miguel.’ Individual highlights were (again) not reported.

No. 4 Mount Miguel 44, at Scripps Ranch 28
At Scripps Ranch: The host Falcons wanted everyone to know their future is bright thanks to freshman Clare Valentine, their leading scorer with 14 points. Mount Miguel (girls or boys teams) failed to report.
