LAKESIDE – El Capitan posted a big, five-run rally in the second inning catapulted the undefeated Vaqueros to a 7-1 victory over the Hilltop Lancers in Coastal Classic tournament action on Monday (Mar.20) in five innings.

The outburst started when Kylee Frazier (1-3, R, RBI) drove in Addison Leone (1-2, R, RBI, SB), and later with two outs Ava Gall (2-3, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2B) roped a two-run double to center field scoring both Reese Danzack (2-2, R, SB) and Frazier to give the Vaqueros a 4-0 lead. Another run came when Aubrey Thorne (2-2, RBI) singled to center field allowing Gall to race home for the score and finally Christiaens scored on a bases-loaded walk.

Earlier in the game Alanna Christiaens (2-3, R, RBI, 2B) doubled in Gall to get the scoring started for the Vaqueros.

The final run of the game for the Vaqueros would come in the bottom of the fourth inning when Freshman Quinnley Morehouse (1-3, RBI) singled to right field allowing fellow Freshman Ciara Bernadini (1-1, R) to come into score.

Makenna Burton would strike out four for the Vaqueros as she allowed one run on four hits in five innings of work.

El Capitan moved their overal record to 7-0, matching the school’s best mark this century. In the COVID-19 shortened season, the Vaqueros also went 7-0 before dropping what proved to be their final game — Grossmont scored three in the seventh to register a 10-9 walk-off victory — to finish 7-1.
