Silva scores seven TDs for Norsemen

2023 EAST COUNTY PREP FOOTBALL
VALHALLA 48, MAR VISTA 12
EL CAJON – The Valhalla Norsemen had eight possessions in its non-league football contest with visiting Mar Vista on Friday night.
Senior running back Dominic Silva scored touchdowns for the Norsemen on seven of them.
Silva also rushed for more than 300 yards as Valhalla improved to 1-1 after winning only one game – on the final night of the season – last year.
Silva adds his name to a pretty strong list of Valhalla running backs who have turned in monster single-game performances, but no Valhalla player had found paydirt seven times in one contest, or even six.
The mark fell just one score shy of the East County record for touchdowns in one game (eight by Jahmon McClendon in 2017).
Silva’s seventh touchdown of the game came with 5:43 left in the fourth quarter on a 23-yard jaunt off the right side.
Silva had scored his sixth six of the game with a 3-yard run with two minutes to play in the third quarter.
Silva had two touchdowns in the first quarter as Valhalla held a 14-6 lead. He had runs of seven and 15 yards just a few minutes apart.
Silva added two more scores in the second quarter as the Norsemen led 28-12 at halftime.
That fourth score was a 3-yard run but it was immediately countered by an 85-yard kickoff return by the Mariners’ Lah’darius Crawford.
Senior Marvel Bana had an interception for Valhalla.
Zachary Haggar, a senior, had a sack for the Norsemen, as did senior Brandon Doctor.
Sophomore Jackson Newman added a fumble recovery for VHS.
