EL CAJON – Short and sweet.

A total of four East County softball teams hit the diamond on Tuesday(Mar. 26), with all finishing prematurely due to the run (mercy) rule.

Among the local squads, half of them won, while the others were not so successful… but then again, the games were so short, they didn’t need to suffer very long.

Liberty Charter 10, La Jolla 0 (walk-off, 5 inn.) – The host Liberty Charter Lions expanded an early 1-0 to five with a four-run rally in the third inning. Buty when the Lions then doubled their score in the fifth, it turned into a walk-off victory over the Vikings, 10-0.

Lions pitcher Kylie Pruett struck out four La Jolla batters without a walk in tossing a 4-hit shutout.

The offense receid a 3-erum double fromLeah Urias, while Samantha McHenryadded a 2-run single in the decisive inning.

Mount Miguel 16, Hoover 6 (walk-off, 5 inn.) – Even the umpires believed this ballgame was destine for more than three houts after the host Matadors led 5-3 after the first inning.

However, Mount Miguel pitching limitd the Cardinals to just two additional hits over the final four frames for the Matadors (6-4) to their third win in four starts to climb over the .500 barrier.

Siz runs in the fourth, then four more in the fifth invoked th run rule.

The 10-hit attack was fueld by three hits by Klarissa Soto, inclduing a double, good for three RBI.

Meanwhile, Athlete Name went 2-for-4, with three runs and a career-nest five RBI. She previously only had to RBI in eight games before her break-through performance.

Bonita Vista 12, Patrick Henry 0 (5 inn.) – Already leading 6-0, the Barons doubled their score in the fifth to invoke the run rule in a 3-hit shutout.

Patrick Henry (REC) suffered its biggest loss in the 21st Century. The previos low-point was falling to Scripps Ranch, 11-0, on Mar. 11, 2010, before any current Patriots player was in kindergarten.

Patrick Henry is now level at 6-6; Bonita Vista moved above .500 at 6-5-1.

Eastlake 12, Valhalla 0 (5 inn.) – Valhalla collected more errors (3) than basehits (1) in a loss to the Titans in the South Bay.

A single by sophomore Preslee Fink ruined the no-hit bid by Eastlake’s Addison Suriano, also a soph, who struck out six Norsemen batters despite five walks.

Valhalla drops to 1-12 with its fifth straight setack. Eastlake is 8-3 in snapping a two-game losing streak, which includer a forfeit to Imperial when the school did not travel to the Valley.
