District 33 All-Stars make strong Section 6 push
EastCountySports.com staff report
District 33’s All-Star summer has already produced a full slate of champions across the younger and older baseball divisions.
Mission Trails Little League captured the District 33 8-10 All-Star championship and will represent the district in the Section 6 tournament beginning Saturday, July 11, at 3 p.m. against the District 32 representative at Mission Trails Little League.
San Carlos Little League claimed the District 33 9-11 All-Star title and will move on to the Section 6 tournament on Saturday, July 11, at 10 a.m. against the District 32 representative at Encinitas Little League.
Patriot American Little League has been one of District 33’s strongest stories in the older divisions. After winning the District 33 Junior Division championship, Patriot American opened Section 6 play with a 9-2 win over District 70 Rancho Buena Vista, then followed with a shutout win over District 31 4S Ranch. Patriot American is scheduled to continue Section 6 play on Thursday, July 2, at 6 p.m. at Oceanside American Little League.
North Park Little League won the District 33 Intermediate Division championship and made history in Section 6 with an 8-4 win over District 70 Rancho Buena Vista. It was a milestone victory for the North Park program before the team dropped a 4-0 decision to District 32 Scripps Ranch. North Park is scheduled to return to Oceanside National Little League on Wednesday, July 1, at 6 p.m.
Sunshine Little League carried the District 33 banner in the Senior Division after winning the district championship and opened Section 6 with an impressive 11-3 victory over District 32 Peninsula. Sunshine then fell to Peninsula, 22-1, to force the “if necessary” championship game. In the rematch, Sunshine battled in a high-scoring final before falling, 14-11, ending its Section 6 run one win short of advancing.
The completed District 33 champions so far are Mission Trails in 8-10, San Carlos in 9-11, North Park in Intermediate, Patriot American in Juniors and Sunshine in Seniors.
The 10-12 Little League division remains the last major district title still to be settled, with the Section 6 opener for the District 33 representative scheduled for Sunday, July 12, at 1 p.m. at Clairemont Hilltoppers Little League.
