Frazier Leads Vaqueros To Victory

LAKESIDE – Three hits in four at-bats was the number collected by Kylee Frazier as she was one of the reasons for the 8-2 victory by the El Capitan Vaqueros on Monday over the visiting Grossmont Foothillers in non-league action.

Frazier in the game would single in the first, third, and sixth innings.

Early on Grossmont would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning thanks to an RBI double by Madison Busch.

El Capitan though would answer and take the lead in the bottom of the third as they pushed across four runs all with two outs. The first run to tie the game courtesy of Frazier when she drove in Gwyndolyn Hill, Alanna Christiaens would later drive in Ciara Bernardini and the final two runs came on errors by Grossmont.

Sophomore Alyssa Cole drew the start for the Vaqueros. She would allow five hits and two runs over seven innings of work for the complete game victory while walking seven and striking out one.

On the other side for Grossmont, senior Eliana Vasquez took the loss as she allowed eight runs of which five were earned on eight hits while walking three.

Carleigh Wenck led Grossmont in hits as she went 2-for-4. Both Busch and Ashley Beard each drove in a run.

Grossmont falls to 5-7-2 overall while El Capitan moves to 7-7-4 on the season.

 

WEST HILLS 10, SCRIPPS RANCH 7 – Fourteen hits and five runs scored in the bottom of the sixth inning allowed the Wolf Pack to outlast the visiting Falcons Monday in a non-league contest.

West Hills outhit Scripps Ranch 14-12 which included six of those hits coming from Faith Balestreri and Kristina Deal who combined to go 6-for-8 including home runs by both.

The Pack would get on the board first when Deal who led off the bottom of the first smacked a solo shot over the center field fence, Abbey Farmer laid down a sacrifice bunt to bring home Maddie Aylesbury, Balesteri singled in a run, and with two outs Lili Leija singled which brought in another run to give them a 4-0 lead.

Scripps Ranch would score twice in the top of the second and later in the top of the fourth tie the game with another pair of runs.

However, West Hills would retake the lead when Aylesbury who stole second would come into score on an error by the Falcons to make it 5-4.

Once again though Scripps Ranch would retake the lead in the top of the sixth inning on a two-run double and a run-scoring single to lead 7-5.

But the bats of the Pack didn’t just lie down they would again come alive as Kristina Allen led off the bottom half of the inning with a triple to right field, she would score on a single by Deal. Later in the inning, Spargo came to the plate and after a six-pitch at-bat blasted a hard-hit ball to center field that brought home both Deal and Aylesbury to retake the lead 8-7.

The other blow by the Pack in the inning came courtesy of Balestreri who lined a shot over the center-field fence for a two-run home run and a 10-7 lead.

Ava Goodman got the start for the Pack. She would go five innings in which she allowed six runs on ten hits while walking one and striking out seven. Aylesbury who came into the game in relief would finish out with two innings of two-hit ball and one run while walking one.

Scripps Ranch falls to 9-6 while West Hills has now won four games in a row and moves to 9-6-1 on the season.
