Helix takes bite from Bayfront Sharks

LA MESA – For the third consecutive game the offense came alive for the Helix Highlanders as they downed the visiting Bayfront Charter Sharks 19-0 in five innings to claim the Gold & Silver Classic contest Monday afternoon.

Helix offensively would push across eight runs in the bottom of the first inning as Lauren Farace who drove in the three runs and Tatiana Hernandez-Ahmu who drove in a pair doing the most damage in the inning.

Leading 15-0 thanks to four runs scored in the third inning thanks to a two-run home run by Nikaylah Domingo and an RBI triple by Ta’Tiannah Wright. The Highlanders would go onto push across four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to round out their scoring.

Farace who got the starting nod picked up the victory. She allowed no runs on no hits over two innings, striking out one and walking two.

Helix tallied 17 hits in the contest which included Domingo driving in three runs in her 2-for-3 day at the plate. Other contributors included Hernandez, Wright and Clarissa Torres who each scored three runs. Both Vivienne Munoz and Wright stole a pair of bases as the Highlanders collectively swiped five bases.

The win now moves the winning streak for Helix to three games and their overall record to 3-0.

Cougar Classic

 Valhalla 9, Grossmont 0 – A combination of strong pitching and offense proves to be the formula as the Valhalla Norsemen win in convincing fashion over Grossmont on Monday evening in four innings.

Avery Voth would give Valhalla the early lead on an RBI ground out and would drive in a pair of runs in the bottom of the second with a triple to center field go make it 3-0.

The bigger damage offensively came later in the fourth inning as Jayden Chiaramonte drove in a pair of runs as did Lily Alvarado.

Devyn Mack who started for the Norsemen earned the victory thanks to four strong innings in which she allowed no runs on one hit while striking out three.

On the other side for Grossmont, Saraya Roope took the loss as she allowed nine runs on eight hits while striking out two.

The only hit of the game for Grossmont came in the top of the second thanks to a lead off single by Madison Bush.


Santana 6, Mission Vista 3 –
Four runs in the top of the third by the Santana Sultans proved to be huge as they doubled up Mission Vista on Monday evening.

Santana would strike first in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Ashlyn Darrow to lead 1-0.

With the score tied at 1-1 the Sultans would take advantage of opportunities in the top of the third inning as they pushed across four runs to take a 5-1 lead. Doing damage in the inning was Kaylee Lindahl who crushed a ball over the right field fence for a solo home run. Santana would add two more runs on an error by Mission Vista and Vanessa Ryan drove in a run on a single to round out the scoring.

Bella Zuckerman who drew the start picked up the win as she allowed four hits and three runs over three innings, striking out two. Darrow would come in and toss two innings of shutout ball in relief in which she allowed two hits while striking out two.

Offensively for the Sultans, Lindahl, Darrow and Brianna Canty each tallied a pair of hits in the contest.


Mt. Carmel n8, Steele Canyon 5 –
Despite having the early lead the Steele Canyon Cougars unfortunately hold onto it as the Mt. Carmel Sun Devils came alive and would claim the Cougar Classic contest Monday afternoon.

Steele Canyon early on jumped out to a 3-0 lead courtesy of an RBI double by Marina Gonzalez, Tevia Cohen and Bailey Evans each drove in a run.

However, the lead wouldn’t last as Mt. Carmel courtesy of five hits in the inning would take a 5-3 lead.

The Cougars would tie the game in the top of the second as they took advantage of an error that scored a run and Dannika Lakin stealing home.

Evans would take the loss for the Cougars. She would go two and two-thirds innings in which she allowed two runs on four hits while striking out three. Gonzalez who started for the Cougars only lasted one and one-third of an inning in which she allowed six runs on six hits.

Number seven hitter, Makenzie Meyer led the Cougars at the plate with her 2-for-3 effort.

Cathedral Catholic 2, Granite Hills 1 – Despite the strong pitching efforts by both squads the Cathedral Catholic Dons would come out on top thanks to Kathleen Clark who doubled in the go-ahead and winning run in the bottom of the fourth inning to give them the victory Monday.

Cathedral would take an early 1-0 lead thanks to Anna Kanis who drove in a run in the bottom of the second inning.

The lead would be short lived as Olivia Cirar tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI single to center field for Granite Hills.

Peyton Wells who started for the Eagles went four and two-thirds innings in which she allowed two runs on six hits.

Kaleigh Baugher would lead the Eagles at the plate as she went 2-for-2.
