#1 MATER DEI CATHOLIC 4, #4 CHRISTIAN 0 – Three runs scored by the top seeded Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders in the bottom of the fourth inning were a big reason they claimed a semi-final victory over fourth seeded Christian on Tuesday afternoon to punch their ticket to the Open Division Championship game.

An error by the Patriots and a two run single led to the two other runs in the inning for the Crusaders and a 3-0 lead.

Alyssa McCurty who went toe to toe with Mater Dei’s Arri Romero for about four innings unfortunately was on losing end despite none of the runs given up over her five and one third of an inning being earned. On the day she allowed seven hits while walking one and striking out six.

Patriot’s senior Kaitlyn Moody would lead the day at the plate as she went 2-for-3. The only other hits in the game for Christian came courtesy of senior Lucy Sherburne and freshman Pressly Villalva.

With the loss the Christian Patriots see their season come to an end and finish 23-8-1 overall.

Mater Dei Catholic will move onto the championship game where they will wait for the Poway/Bonita Vista winner as Bonita Vista beat Poway to force a IF NECESSARY game to be played on Thursday.

#2 EASTLAKE 10, #7 STEELE CANYON 1 – Eight runs scored over the fifth and sixth innings put the game out of reach and help them easily punch their ticket to the championship game as they claimed a semi-final victory over Steele Canyon on Tuesday afternoon.

Both teams would match each other inning for inning on the score board as each put up zeroes but in the bottom of the third inning the Eastlake Titans broke through as they pushed across a pair of runs to lead 2-0.

Steele Canyon though would answer back with a run in the top of the fourth inning when Peyton Sos singled to left field to bring home Dannika Lakin to make it 2-1.

Eastlake in the bottom of the sixth inning would really blow the score open as they pushed across five runs only two hits in the inning.

Anabel Will who started for the Cougars would take the loss as she five runs (four earned) on six hits over four and one-third innings in which she walked five and struck out five.

Both Sophia Jackel and Lakin would lead the Cougars in hitting as each tallied a 3-for-3 day at the plate. The only other hitter for Steele Canyon to get a hit in the game was Hailey Trujillo.

The loss by Steele Canyon snaps their two game winning streak and sees their season come to an end as they finish the season 18-14-1 overall.
