DEL CERRO (2-27-26) – Late inning dramatics seems to be the name in the early season as another one was added as Patrick Henry rallied and in the bottom of the sixth inning behind a Jiana Mallari (1-3, RBI, 2B) RBI double would claim the 6-5 victory over the visiting West Hills Wolf Pack on Friday afternoon in non-league action.
Early on it was West Hills who would strike first as they pushed across three runs thanks to Katy Spargo (2-4, 2R, 2 RBI, 2B, HR) doubling in a run, Maddie Aylesbury (2-4, R, RBI, 2B) driving in a run and finally taking advantage of an error committed by the Patriots to lead 3-0 in the top of the first inning.
However, despite trailing Patrick Henry didn’t panic as they answered with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the first inning. Those runs came courtesy of an RBI single by Ava Cornell (1-2, R, RBI), an error by the Wolf Pack and another RBI single by Megan Rader (1-1, RBI).
Spargo who is currently climbing the ranks of various record books such as the CIF San Diego books added to her day as she smashed a solo home run in the top of the third inning to give the Pack the lead 4-3. West Hills would add another run in the top of the fourth inning when Kiara Rabaya (1-4, 2B, SB) doubled in Addison Nuzzo (1-3, R, 2B) to give them a 5-3 lead.
Patrick Henry though in the bottom of the fifth inning would pull within a run when with two outs Stephanie La ( 1-2, R, RBI, 2B) doubled to center field allowing Angelina Mazon (2-3, 3R, 2B, SB) to come into score.
Teagan Forbes for the Pats came into the contest in relief and would pick up the win as she went three and two-thirds innings in which she allowed no runs on no hits, while walking two and striking out three. Rader who started the contest would get the no decision as she allowed eight hits and five runs over three and one-third innings in which she struck out three.
Taking the loss for the Pack was Ariana Franco who came into the game in relief and allowed a pair of runs on three hits in an inning of work, Aylesbury who started wouldn’t factor into the decision despite tossing five innings in which she allowed four runs on five hits while walking two and striking out five.
HELIX 18, MAR VISTA 0 (5 INN.) – Leading the charge for the Helix Highlanders in their convincing victory was Naleia Medina who tallied a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate. Her day included a pair of doubles.
Helix started their run in the top of the second inning as they scored seven runs to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Doing the damage in the inning was Logan McMahon who drove in a run, Sabrina Ramuno singling in a run, and scoring a run, Lillianna Benabdeljalil doubled in a pair of run, Nikayla Domingo tripled in a run and Medina doubled in a run.
They would wrack up more in the top of the fifth inning to finish things out by scoring seven more runs.
Domingo drove in a pair, Medina doubled in a run, Ella Aguayo doubled in a run and would tag up and come into score, also driving in runs were both Adams and Ramuno.
Lea Moya who started for the Highlanders earned the win behind a gem of no runs on no hits over four innings of work while walking one and striking out three.
RANCHO BERNARDO 1, EL CAPITAN 0 – With opportunities being not much the Rancho Bernardo Broncos took advantage of an early opportunity and it paid off in which their pitching made the run hold up for the victory on Friday afternoon out in Lakeside in non-league action.
The only run of the game came in the top of the second inning when the Broncos would double steal and the runner from third would score before the runner attempting to steal second would be caught to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead.
Addison Higuera who started for the El Capitan Vaqueros unfortunately would take the hard luck loss despite only giving up the one run on four hits over seven innings in which she struck out two and walked three.
The only two hits for the Vaqueros came courtesy of Gabrielle Garcia and Higuera.
