Pats’ Benami Drives In 4 To Down the Dons

2026 EAST COUNTY PREP SOFTBALL

DEL CERRO (4-15-26) – For the second straight day a favorite to claim the league championship as the Patrick Henry Patriots knock off the visiting Cathedral Catholic Dons 12-7 on Wednesday afternoon on opening day of City Western League play.
Leading the charge for the home team Patrick Henry Patriots was junior Sivan Benami (2-4, R, 4 RBI, HR) who drove in four runs in her 2-for-4 day at the plate that included a three-run home run in the fourth inning.
Trailing by a score of 3-1 after a full inning of play the Patriots were able to chip away and would take the lead for what ended up being for good thanks to Katie Krewson 1-3, 2 R, 2 RBI), and Whitley Swain 1-3, 2 RBI) to give them a 4-3 lead.
The Patriots would go onto add to their lead in the bottom of the third inning thanks to Benami, Stephanie La (1-5, RBI), and Krewson who each drove in runs to make it 7-3.
After Cathedral Catholic pushed across a run in the top of the fourth inning the Patriots answered back with four runs of their own. Driving in a run in the bottom of the fourth inning was Angelina Mazon (2-4, 2 R, RBI) with Benami providing the big three runs blast over the right field wall for her first of the season.
The Dons would score three more runs over the fifth and sixth innings while Henry on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning add their final run.
Emily Caddy of the Patriots also had a pair of hits as she scored a run and drove in a run.
Pitching wise for the Patriots, Megan Rader drew the start and would pick up the win as she allowed seven runs (five earned) on eleven hits over six innings in which she struck out one, Teagan Forbes came in and finished things out as she struck out three in an inning of work.
Both teams combined for 25 hits on the day with Patrick Henry outslugging the Dons by a tally of 14-11.
Cathedral Catholic with the loss has dropped their last two games and falls to 7-8 overall and 0-1 in league play.
On the other side the Patrick Henry Patriots winners of two in a row move to 8-8-1 overall and 1-0 in league play.
POINT LOMA 6, CHRISTIAN 3 – Despite outhitting the home team Point Loma Pointers it wasn’t enough as the Pointers doubled up the visiting Christian Patriots on Wednesday afternoon in City Western League opening action.
Christian would strike first in the game as they pushed across a pair of runs in the top of the first inning to lead 2-0. Alyssa McCurty (2-4, RBI) would drive in a run on a ground ball out and Samantha Baca (2-3, RBI) drove in the other run on a sacrifice fly.
Trailing still in the bottom of the third inning the Pointers finally would break through as they took advantage of a couple of opportunities to take a 3-2 lead thanks to Siena Balistreri (2-3, 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI) who doubled to left field, Leyton MacPherson (RBI) grounded into a fielder’s choice, and a passed ball all led to runs.
Point Loma would strike again in the bottom of the fifth inning with three more runs to extend their lead to 6-2 thanks to back-to-back home runs by Balistreri and Avery MacPherson (2-4, R, RBI, HR) to start the inning. The visiting Patriots would score their only other run in the top of the seventh inning on a Sienna Staite (2-4, RBI, 2B) RBI single to left field that brought home Pressly Villalva.
Pitching wise for the Pointers, Ryoko Schroth would earn the win as she allowed five hits and two runs over four innings, while striking out three and walking two. On the other side for the Patriots, Ava Barrios took the loss. On the day she went five and two-thirds innings in which she allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits while striking out seven and walking four.
Christian with the loss has now dropped four in a row and falls to 7-9-1 overall and 0-1 in league while Point Loma wins their third in a row and improves to 12-7 overall and 1-0 in league.
