Christian uses 5-run fourth, stops Henry

EL CAJON (4-22-26) – Five runs scored in the bottom of the fourth inning by the Christian Patriots to break a 1-1 tie are the difference as they claimed a 6-1 victory in City Wester League action on Tuesday over the Patrick Henry Patriots.

With neither team able to break through with any runs on the board, the Patrick Henry Patriots would finally take advantage when Jenna Mallari singled to center field to bring home Madison Rosenkrans to give them a 1-0 lead.

The momentum would be short-lived as Christian, with two outs, tied the game at 1-1 thanks to Jillian Fraedrich, who took a 1-0 count and lined it to right field for a base hit that would score Samantha Baca.

With the score still tied at 1-1, the Patriots in the bottom of the fourth inning really opened up the scoring, starting with Baca belting a two-run blast deep to center field, scoring Alyssa McCurty, who led off the inning with a double to give them a 3-1 lead.

Later in the inning, after runners were given via three consecutive errors to load the bases and a double play, things didn’t look too good for the Patriots but Keytyn Ruis changed their fortunes as she singled in Charlotte Baca which was followed by Lily Reyes roping a double to center field scoring both Fraedrich and Ruis to round out the scoring.

The five run cushion would be all Ava Barrios would need as she only allowed a single hit the rest of the way to finish things off. On the day in the win she allowed four hits and one run over seven innings in which she walked three and struck out six.

For the Patriots, Megan Rader started in the circle. On the day she allowed six runs on six hits over three and two-thirds innings in which she struck out one.

Patrick Henry with the loss has now dropped three in a row and falls to 8-11-1 overall and 1-2 in league play while Christian snapped a five game losing streak and moves to 8-10-1 overall and 1-1 in league.

 

BONITA VISTA 2, EL CAPITAN 1 – Heartbreak city on Wednesday afternoon as the visiting Bonita Vista Barons who are currently ranked #2 in the latest Union Tribune poll score two runs in the top of the seventh inning to claim the come from behind victory in non-league action.

Addison Higuera, who started for the Vaqueros and would take the hard luck loss, would also knock in the only run of the game for them in the bottom of the fourth inning. With two outs, she would single to center field to bring home Ciara Bernardini to give them a 1-0 lead.

Bernardini would have two hits in the game along with Kylee Frazier and Higuera, who each tallied hits.

Higuera went all seven innings, in which she walked four and struck out four while allowing two runs on four hits.

Bonita Vista has now won six games in a row and moves to 15-3 on the season, while El Capitan falls to 9-9 on the year.
