Patrick Henry 7, St. Augustine 2
SAN CARLOS — The most upset, full of angry ballclubs in the CIF-San Diego Section are the Point Loma Pointers — which is more than fine from the Patrick Henry Patriots point of view.
While the Pats completed a two-game series sweep over St. Augustine — both by identical 7-2 scores — Point Loma fought and clawed to make up for Wednesday’s debacle.
After blowing a three-run, seventh-inning lead to top-ranked Cathedral Catholic, the Pointers bounced back to stop the Dons, 5-4.
Thus, Patrick Henry (16-7 overall) assumed sole possession of first place in the wild Western League at 5-1. Meanwhile, surging Point Loma sprung into a deadlock for second with Cathedral Catholic at 4-2.
The Patriots wasted little time, scoring four times in the first to lead 4-1, then added a pair of additional runs in the second to bury the Saints.
Just like Point Loma on Wednesday, St, Augustine might have blamed the face in the mirror for the early deficit, allowing a walk, a hit-by=pitch and an infield error to allow the Pats to pull even.
Parks Kronk-Hawley singled home a run for the lead — the inning;s only earned run — with the final two runs in the “rally” coming off wild pitches.
An inning later, a double by Ball 1, Pickoff placed two runners in scoring position, with another Saints error bringing home A run. Another runner came home when St. Augustine failed to turn a double play as Simon Pak received an RBI on a fielder’s choice ground ball.
On the mound, Brady Gunn yielded just four hits to collect the victory. Gunn “gunned down” six Saints batters.
Lukas Waite pitched the seventh, recording two of his three outs

Grossmont Hills League
Helix 10, Grossmont 7
At La Mesa: Trailing 7-2, the Highlanders closed with eight unanswered runs to stun the Hillers bullpen.
Two runs in the fourth inning trimmed the deficit to 7-4, then five additional markers in the fifth to tilt the scoreboard.
The turn-around started on a solo home run by Angel Watkins. Helix then collected three more hits, including an RBI single by Jake Johnson.
An inning later, Jace Sells and Rory Kleiner singled home runs to move within a run, then a two-run single by Watkins became the game-tying and go-ahead RBI.
Helix also added a squeeze bunt from Kleiner in the sixth, with Watkins racing home uncontested as the throw could only go to first base.
Bryan Herman also homered early for Helix.
Grossmont runs were earned by the bottom of the batting card.
In the second, No. 6 batter Colton Burke doubled in a run. Two batters later, Reid Barnett stroked an RBI single for a 2-0 lead.
In the fourth, the Hillers scored four more times thanks to the bottom side of the batting order.
Burke’s second double to leadoff started the rally, later scoring on Elijah Martinez tapper to the right side.
An error also scored a marker, then saac Fierro drilled a two-run single.
Granite Hills 24, Va1halla 0
At Rancho San Diego: The Eagles posted 12 runs in the second inning to race to a 16-0 start, posting their largest win by margin over Orange Nation in school history.
The dozen-run outburst started on a two-run homer by Anthony Miotti , also scoring Preston Hendry.

Eastern League
Christian 8, Mira Mesa 4
At the green field on Greenfield Drive: The Patriots tallied seven times in the second inning, then withstood a late Marauders rally to remain in a deadlock for the Eastern League lead by completing a three-game sweep.
Christian almost gained the top spot alone, but co-leader Madison scored late to break a tie to nip Clairemont, 5-4.
Mira Mesa, trailing 7-1, scored three times in the sixth before Christian answered with a run. However, the contest became interesting in the seventh when the Marauder loaded the bases with just one out.
Fortunately, relief pitcher L.J. Rook, a freshman, accepted some advice on a trip to the mound from the coach to simply throwing fastballs.
Two strikeouts later, including a grab by the catcher on the final pitch, the Patriots moved to 6-0 in Eastern action.
Early on, Misa Mesa opened the scoring in the second, but the Patriots answered by sending 11 batters to the plate to take command.
Walker Kane singled in the tying run, followed by a go-ahead basehit from Casey Coulter.
Benji Molina followed by the biggest hit of the rally, sending a booming, two-run single to centerfield.
Roman Gustin added a sacrifice fly, Braeden Casey lined an RI single over the head o tthird baseman, then Aedan Bovee added anther sac fly.
