Avocado League
Ramona 6, Fallbrook 1
At Ramona: The Ramona Bulldogs, after being held for the first five innings in Monday’s series opener, made sure to wouldn’t happen in short order on Wednesday (Apr. 29).

The Dawgs scored on their first three trips to the plate, scoring 1, 2 and 4 runs, respectively, to mount a 6-2 lead to whip the visiting Warriors.

Ramona pitcher Alex Wilson was touched for a run in the first on a leadoff home run by senior Camden Hoff , then took over command by closing with seven frames of shutout ball in tossing a complete-game, four-hitter. Wilson struck out seven Fallbrook batters and issued just ne walk.

The Ramona offense suffered only one “blemish” — in a manner of speaking. While Fallbrook needed just a single batter to score, the Dawgs needed two.

Derek Taylor p[rnrf the home-half of the first with a booming triple to deep center field. Taylor scored when Blake Hollopeter intentionally slapped a grounder to the right-side of the diamond for an easy out at first, but an RBI to tie the contest.

From then on, it was all Ramona, especially after Wilson stranded a pair of Fallbrook runners in scoring position with a strike out and a ground out.

In the second, two basehits and a walk loaded the bases with one out, but when the Warriors failed to turn an inning-ending double play, Colton Simpson and Zack Nightingale both scored.

An inning later, Hollopeter started a three-run rally with a double, scoring on a clutch, two-out double by Simpson for a 4-1 lead.

Moments later, Cal Melendez slugged a two-run homer to right field for a 6-1 cushion. For Melendez, the designated hitter, the home run was his fifth of the season, batting 2-for-3 to raise his varerage over the .30 platea (at .313)/

With the victory, Ramona (16-6overall, 6-4 Avo) captured the series, going for the sweep in Friday’s finale in Fallbrook (3-19-1, 1-9).
