SANTEE – Helix Highlander junior guard JADYN JAMES changed Friday night’s Grossmont Hills League clash with West Hills in just a few plays Friday night.
James scored 10 of his 15 points in a personal third-quarter rush midway through
The traveling Highlanders outscored the Wolf Pack 21-9 in the first quarter but the Wolf Pack battled back to get within 28-23 at halftime.
West Hills remained hot coming out of the locker room, eventually taking the lead in the third quarter thanks to three-pointers from sophomore KYLE DOBYNS and senior MICHAEL TOTAH.
But James struck quickly to help the Highlanders regain the lead, knocking down three field goals, including a couple of threes of his own, as Helix surged back up to lead, 42-33.
Helix junior MAURICE HOLMES scored a game-high 19 points, while junior KAI JESSIE added eight points.
“We took some unselfish shots tonight,” Helix head coach JOHN SINGER said.
Dobyns finished with 16 points for the Pack, while ASHTON AVESTRO added 12 points, including a pair of three-pointers in the first half.
Helix (12-9) improved to 2-1 in the Grossmont Hills League.
Dobyns finished with 16 points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots.
West Hills’ ASHTON AVESTRO had 12 points and three rebounds.
The Highlanders, which play on their games on the road this season, will meet Grossmont for the second time on Tuesday at 5:30.
