ESCONDIDO – El Cajon Valley picked up its first victory of the season Friday night, defeating Orange Glen, 23-8, behind a dominant two-way performance from junior Janvier Kashindi.
Kashindi carried 20 times for 154 yards and two rushing touchdowns, while also contributing a key interception and a sack on defense. His effort powered the Braves to their first win of 2025 after three narrow losses to open the season.
Senior quarterback Jaquari Wash completed 6-of-12 passes for 99 yards and connected with senior receiver Vave Mossman on a 29-yard touchdown. Mossman finished with nine receptions for 95 yards, adding to the Braves’ balanced attack.
Freshman kicker Jacob Bickett was perfect on special teams, converting both extra-point attempts and drilling a 35-yard field goal. He accounted for five points in the victory.
El Cajon Valley’s defense controlled the game from start to finish, limiting Orange Glen to just 34 yards rushing on 17 attempts.
The Braves recorded three sacks—one each by Kashindi, Mossman, and Wash—and forced a turnover on Kashindi’s interception.
Senior Leo Jones and Mossman each tallied tackles for loss, while senior Paul Marcelin added another stop behind the line.
Orange Glen’s only touchdown came late in the first half, when sophomore quarterback Xadan Wilde scored on a short run and added the two-point conversion to briefly give the Patriots an 8-7 lead.
However, El Cajon Valley responded with touchdowns from Kashindi and Mossman, along with Bickett’s field goal, to pull away in the second half.
The Braves finished with 365 total yards, including 266 on the ground.
Orange Glen was limited to 165 total yards, with senior Aldair Samano throwing for 100 yards and Wilde contributing 84 total yards with both his arm and legs.
El Cajon Valley (1-3) will look to build on the momentum when it hosts Castle Park (1-3) this Friday in another non-league matchup. Orange Glen fell to 1-3 with the loss.
