GREENFIELD — Two of three undefeated ballclubs in the Eastern League were battling Monday (Apr. 27). Neither were the Christian Patriots.

With fans busy sending text message about the battle royal between Madison and Clairemont — it wasn’t — the Patriots mounted an early 7-1league taking down cellar-dwelling Mira Mesa, 10-4.

Meanwhile, text messaging ended early when Madison mounted a 9-0 advantage through three frames, clubbing the Chieftains, 15-1, allowing the Warhawks to remain perfect in league play, along with Christian.

Mira Mesa briefly held a 1-0 lead on an unearned run, then the Patriots took command.

Clean-up batter Braeden Casey belted a two-run homer in the first — just missing the school’s swimming pool, Casey later sibgled and scored on a Xander Molina double in the furthm when the Pats reached double-figures in toal hits;the ballclub finished with 13 knocks.Caleb Brierley (Jr)

Caleb Brierley and Casey both scored twice Christian (12-7-1 overall, 4-0 East). Mira Mesa 8-15, 0-7) saw Ryan Ollila collect two hits for a pair of RBI.

At Zeke Wever Memorial Field (established in 1913′ more than a century ago, Fallbrook: The Fallbrook Warriors carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, b ut one little mistake turned the tide.

Ramona shortstop Blake Hollopeter was struck by a pitch to lead off, then pitch control problems too over. By the time the inning concluded, the Bulldogs posted four runs on four hits and a sacrifice fly to whip the Warriors, 5-2, in Monday’s *Apr. 27) opener of a three-game Avocado e League series.

After Hollopeter’s free pass, the next four Ramona batters –Juston Jarrett, Tallon Ogilvie (RBA), Colron Simpson and al Melendez (RBI) — all singled to tie the contest at 2-all.

The ensuing game-wining RBI went to Zack Nightingale, who intentionally slapped the ground ball to the right-side of the infield for a run, then Alex Wilson lifted a sacrifice fly to center field for a 4-2 advantage.

In the seventh, Ogilvie, the first baseman, collected his second RBIon a hard grounder through the left side.

The offensive support was all that was needed for Dawgs pitcher Noah Bedia, who survived an unearned run in the first to fire a complete-game victory.

Bedia struck out two Warriors batters. then escaped a jam in the seventh when two Warriors reached base, bu t a pop out to Jarrett at third base capped the comeback triumph.

Ramona (15-6 overall, 404 Avo) again jumps over Vista for third place in league. Fallbrook (3-18-1, 1-7 Avo) set aita Hkf-0game ahead o last-place Valley Center.

Summit League
Liberty Charter 11, Ocean View Christian 4
At Matt LaChappa Field, Lakeside: The Liberty Charter Lions leapfrogged for Ocean View Christian for third place in the Summit League by pounding the Patriots, 111-4, Monday (Apr. 27).

The Lions (7-8 overall, 2-2 league) remain a full game behind front-running Mountain Empire, while CVLCC stands in second place.

Trailing 1-0, the Lions scored three times over the consecutive innings to mount a 10-3 advantage through frames.

Joshua Fredrick clouted an RBI double for a 4-1 lead in the third. An inning later, Moses Godinez ad ripped a two-run triple for a 6-2 cushion, then coming home on a Isaac Anderso single.

Lions reliever Jacob Jones struck out the side in the seventh to clinch the win. Jones struck out four Crusaders batters,

John Gray aslo struck out the side in the fourth among his four K’s.
