Vaqueros romp Sultans to spoil Senior Night

2026 EAST COUNTY PREP SOFTBALL

SANTEE (4-30-26) – Clutch hitting by Kylee Frazier of the El Capitan Vaqueros propelled them to a 13-3 shortened victory in five and a half innings over Santana in Grossmont Hills action.
Besides spoiling the Sultans’ potential to clinch the league crown for the first time since 2013, the Vaqueros also spoiled senior day for Santana with their convincing victory.
El Capitan would strike first with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, thanks to a sacrifice fly by Isabella Farris and a walk by Quinnley Morehouse, which both led to a 2-0 lead.
However, the Sultans would punch right back as Brianna Canty roped a two-out double to right field that allowed both Lily Sowinski and Kaylee Lindahl to plate and tie the game at 2-2.
With the score all knotted up the Vaqueros flipped the momentum completely as they pushed across five runs to take a 7-2 lead. El Capitan thanks to five runs on five hits really took charge.
Bailey Evans was the one to break the tie for the Vaqueros as she drove in Kalli Goodwin with a double to left field, which was followed by a two run double by Frazier and with two outs Ciara Bernardini driving in Frazier which was followed by Isabella Farris doubling in Bernardini to round out the scoring.
El Capitan would really blow the game wide open with six runs in the top of the fifth inning on five hits. An error scored a run, Frazier drove in a pair of runs, and Addison Higuera cleared the bases as she singled in three runs.
Starting for the Vaqueros was Mckenzie Passanisi who allowed two hits and two runs (zero earned) over two innings in which she struck out three, Makenna Burton who came into the game in relief and earned the win would allow one run (zero earned) on two hits over three innings, in which she struck out two.
Sultans starter Ashlyn Darrow took the loss as she allowed two runs over two-thirds of an inning, in which she allowed one hit while walking two.
The win extends the Vaqueros’ winning streak to two games and improves their overall record to 11-10 and 2-3 in league.
Santana, with the loss, sees their six-game winning streak snapped and their overall record drops to 13-10 overall and 4-1 in league play.
STEELE CANYON 6, GRANITE HILLS 4 – Steele Canyon, on Thursday afternoon, kept their hope alive for a league crown thanks to coming away victorious in Grossmont Hills league play.
Payton Sos would get the Cougars on the board first with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning.
Granite Hills would tie the game up in the top of the second inning, but the Cougars would steal the momentum when Tevia Cohen knocked in a run along with Avigail Hendricks to give them a 3-1 lead.
They would add another run in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single by Ariana Agnotti to give them a 4-1 lead.
Delaney Shemaya of the Cougars picked up the win as she allowed five hits and four runs (one earned) over seven innings while walking four and striking out two.
Granite Hills with the loss falls to 6-12 overall and 2-3 in league play while Steele Canyon improves to 13-11 and 3-2 in league.
GROSSMONT VALLEY LEAGUE
GROSSMONT 15, MOUNT MIGUEL 3 (5 INN.) – Grossmont on Thursday afternoon pounded out 18 hits of which Madison Busch accumulated three of them in her 3-for-4 day at the plate, in which he also drove in 4 RBI.
Another contributor for the Hillers was Saraya Roope, who was perfect at the plate as she went 4-for-4 and drove in a run, scored three runs, and doubled.
The margin of victory by Grosmont, which was 12, was the fourth most of the season for them as they won by 17 back in February against Vista.
Sahara Roope started for the Hillers, and on the day she fanned 11 over five innings in which she allowed three runs on two hits for the win.
Grossmont moves to 11-9-1 overall and 4-1 in league play.
HELIX 17, MONTE VISTA 0 (5 INN.) – On Thursday afternoon, the Helix Highlanders scored 12 runs combined over the second and third innings to claim the easy victory on Thursday afternoon.
Lea Moya earned the win for the Highlanders as she went three innings, allowing no runs and no hits while striking out three.
Helix with the win is back in the win column and moves their record to 19-2 overall and 5-0 in league play.
