Grossmont Hills Leagu
Helix 10, Grossmont 7
At La Mesa: Trailing 7-2, the Highlanders closed with eight unanswered runs to stun the Hillers bullpen.
Two runs in the fourth inning trimmed the deficit to 7-4, then five additional markers in the fifth to tilt the scoreboard.
The turn-around started on a solo home run by Angel Watkins. Helix then collected three more hits, including an RBI single by Jake Johnson.
An inning later, Jace Sells and Rory Kleiner singled home runs to move within a run, then a two-run single by Watkins became the game-tying and go-ahead RBI.
Helix also added a squeeze bunt from Kleiner in the sixth, with Watkins racing home uncontested as the throw could only go to first base.
Bryan Herman also homered early for Helix.
Grossmont runs were earned by the bottom of the batting card.
In the second, No. 6 batter Colton Burke doubled in a run. Two batters later, Reid Barnett stroked an RBI single for a 2-0 lead.
In the fourth, the Hillers scored four more times thanks to the bottom side of the batting order.
Burke’s second double to leadoff started the rally, later scoring on Elijah Martinez tapper to the right side.
An error also scored a marker, then saac Fierro drilled a two-run single.
Granite Hills 24, Va1halla 0
