EL CAJON — Valhalla High School has hired Zach Ambrose as the new head coach of its baseball program, the school announced on Tuesday.
Ambrose, a La Mesa native, brings experience as a player, scout, and coach at multiple levels of the game. He replaces the previous leadership of the Norsemen program, led by Sean Crosby, and takes over a team with a long-standing presence in East County baseball.
A former standout at Grossmont High School, Ambrose continued his playing career at Grossmont College before transferring to San Diego Christian College.
Following his playing career, Ambrose worked as an associate scout for the Atlanta Braves organization. He also served on the coaching staff of the Braves Scout Team, helping develop several players who were selected in the Major League Baseball Draft and advanced to professional baseball.
Ambrose has coached at various levels of the sport, most recently as a member of the coaching staff at Grossmont College.
In a statement released by the school, Ambrose said his coaching philosophy emphasizes culture, accountability, attitude and effort as the foundation of a successful program.
“Throughout my journey in baseball, I’ve learned that the game is about much more than wins and losses,” Ambrose said. “Culture, accountability, attitude and effort are the foundation of any successful program, and that starts on day one.”
Ambrose said he looks forward to leading the Norsemen program and building on its tradition.
