D2: Falcons Claim Duel In Lakeside Over Vaqueros

LAKESIDE (5-26-26) – With both teams pitching shutting down the offense the game down to a team taking advantage of an opportunity and that is exactly what the tenth seeded Scripps Ranch Falcons did when they pushed across a run with two outs and made it stick to claim their ticket to the CIF Division II championship game.

The lone run of the game came courtesy of Sarah Cornelissen in the top of the sixth inning when with two outs lined a base hit left field bringing in a run.

Falcons starter Kenzie Johnson would make the one run stick as she allowed one hit over seven innings of work in which she struck out seven in the win.

For the Vaqueros, Addison Higuera went toe-to-toe with Johnson for a lot of the game as she fanned 13 Falcons over seven innings. Unfortunately, the difference was the one run on two hits while walking five.

Gwen Hill would tally the lone hit of the game for the Vaqueros when she singled to center field in the bottom of the sixth inning.

With the victory the Scripps Ranch Falcons up their winning streak to four games in a row and will now move onto the CIF Division II championship where they will take on the winner of the Westview/Carlsbad semifinal winner as Westview defeated Carlsbad 7-0 to force a if necessary game to be played on Wednesday.

El Capitan sees their season end as they are officially eliminated and finish their season 15-14 overall.
