Threadgill keeps Matadors busy winning

The Mount Miguel Matadors won Tuesday’s home non-conference match against Del Lago Academy, 3-0, as Carly Threadgill was selected the Mount Miguel Player of the Match.

“Carly had an outstanding game dominating the net and hitting from the back row,” Mount Miguel coach Ernie Reyes said of the 5-foot-9 senior. “Her consistency is coming around and its proving to be a force to deal with. It is nice to have that go to player when our team needs it. Great effort.”

Mount Miguel improved to 4-3 following a weekend full of matches.

Meanwhile, Christian defeated Foothills Christian, 3-1, in a non-league volleyball match between East County foes on Tuesday.

Alex Dunham had 22 kills for Christian, while Kate Wnek had 18 assets and Madison Robinson had 13 digs.

Mount Miguel went 1-1 in pool play at the Monta Vista Classic on Friday, as the host monarchs went 1-2 in their pool. El Cajon Valley finished 0-2 on the day.

The Matadors limited the Braves to just nine points in a 2-0 win over the Matadors on Saturday.
The crowd at Saturday’s non-league bout between the Sage Creek Bobcats and the Mount Miguel Matadors saw Sage Creek beat Mount Miguel, 2-0. Sage Creek improved to 5-0.

Southwest scored a  2-0 triumph over the Monarchs.

Next, the Monarchs encounter the Central Spartans (El Centro) in a non-league match, on Saturday, August 29.  Monte Vista will attempt to advance on its 0-1 season record. The Spartans come into the match with a 2-0 record after their 2-0 non-league win over Mount Miguel.

The Spartans scored a 2-0 triumph over the Matadors.

The Bobcats were winners over the Braves, by a margin of 2-0.

Next up, the Bobcats battle the Mountain Empire Red Hawks in a non-league contest, on Saturday, August 29.

With the loss, El Cajon Valley moves to 0-1 on the year.

In Friday’s contest, the Matadors knocked off the Chula Vista Learning Community Charter Cobras, 2-0.
Also over the weekend, Granite Hills played at the Las Vegas Invitational tournament, which consisted of 36 teams.

After opening with a pair of two-game sweeps of Basic (25-6, 25-11) and Meadows (25-18, 25-20) on Friday as Granite won Group H, but the Eagles lost to Chatsworth 15-25, 25-18, 7-15, and also fell to Central 19-25, 25-27 and Faith Lutheran 10-25, 25-19, 7-15, on Saturday, while picking up a victory over Legacy 25-18, 25-11.

The Eagles also lost 25-16, 26-24 to undefeated San Dieguito Academy.

In the win over Basic, Lauren Komp, a senior, and Chrissy Berry, a junior both had four kills for the Eagles, while sophomore Sarah Ralston had seven digs. Kylee Snyder had 14 assists for the Eagles.
