The Pacific Coast Athletic Conference has selected volleyball players Katie Rademacher of Grossmont College as Women’s Athlete of the Week.

Rademacher, a sophomore outside hitter from San Marcos High School, led the Griffins during a week during which they went 3-1.

The Griffs swept Cerro Coso in a non-conference match Friday morning at home, then drove to San Diego Mesa where they swept Ventura later Friday and Bakersfield on Saturday to begin the 30th Mesa Invitational.

Later Saturday, they made their third straight championship-match appearance in the tournament, dropping a 25-20, 27-25, 22-15, 16-25, 15-11 five-set marathon to state No. 1-ranked Los Angeles Pierce.

Rademacher hit .375 with a .486 kill percentage for the four matches. She had only 8 hitting errors.

The CCCAA state poll has the Griffins ranked #5 in Southern California and #8 in the state.

COD takes down Cuyamaca in ‘Runners home opener

PALM DESERT – College of the Desert women’s volleyball opened their 2015 home schedule with a 3-1 (24-26, 25-15, 25-13, 25-16) victory over Cuyamaca Wednesday evening in Palm Desert.

After suffering a tough loss in set one, the Lady Roadrunners took control for the rest of the match.

On Tuesday, Mesa defeated the Coyotes 25-19, 25-12, 25-11 in Cuyamaca’s first match of the season.
