SANTEE – The West Hills girls basketball team dominated the third quarter, limiting Lincoln to just two points Tuesday night (Dec. 29), as MEGAN SCOTT paced the Wolf Pack with 11 points, 9 rebounds and 5 steals in a 42-26 win over the visiting Hornets in the NAIA Division SoCal Holiday Prep Classic game.

The Wolf Pack turned the game around by holding the Hornets to 13 points in the second half.

The Hornets were held scoreless by West Hills for most of the third period before Lincoln found the hoop for a basket in the final minutes for its only points of the quarter.

This was a defensive effort by West Hills (9-3), which featured 37 rebounds and 9 steals.

“It was a very sloppy game on both offense and defense, will have to play much better tomorrow if we want to beat Del Norte,” said West Hills coach RYAN KINSER.

West Hills:  Megan Scott 11 (9 reb, 1 ast, 5 stl), Alyssa Garcia 9 (4 reb), Carly Raley 6 (8 reb, 2 ast, 1 stl, 2 blk), Clarrisa Holder 6 (5 reb, 1 ast), Maya Clemons 4 (3 reb, 2 ast, 3 stl), Kerrie Daniels 4 (4 reb, 1 ast), Summer Stewart 2 (1 reb), Haley Doucette (3 reb).

MOUNT MIGUEL 54, GARFIELD (Wash.) 48 — Mount Miguel slapped around Washington State power Garfield in Tuesday’s (Dec. 29) WNBA Division of the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic.

DESTINI ANDERSON led the charge with 23 points, hitting one 3 and 8 of 11 free throws as the Matadors improved to 10-4.

Matadors coach ROBBIE SANDOVAL said, “It was one of Mount Miguel’s strongest performances. They were pressing us the whole game, but we were able to find cracks in their traps.”

AMBER HARD pitched in 13 points for the Matadors.

Mount Miguel was playing without SATERA BATES (ankle sprain), which hurt the Matadors.

“She’s one of our better ballhandlers and her absence put the pressure on LAILA SMITH,” said Sandoval.

Mount Miguel led by 14 points with 4 minutes to go.

Smith had 2 free throws and Anderson hit 2 more to help hold off Garfield.

Mount Miguel:  Destini Anderson 23 (6 reb), Amber Hard 13 (8 reb, 2 ast), Laila Smith 8 (1 reb, 6 ast), Rozlyn Pierce 6 (4 reb, 1 ast, 1 stl, 1 blk), Camara Douglas 2 (5 reb), Zaria Arline 2, Michelle Corley (2 reb, 1 stl).

EL TORO 56, STEELE CANYON 43 – The tall girls from El Toro jumped on the Cougars and rode them into defeat in Tuesday’s (Dec. 29) SoCal Holiday Prep Classic FIBA (Black Division) contest.

JULES LOIBEL led Steele Canyon with 18 points while ASHLEY TAVIZON popped in 14.

“El Toro was doubling up on Ashley,” said Steele Canyon coach PETER RUIZ. “It was a wonder Ashley got 14 points the way they were guarding her.

“They had no answer for Loibl. She’s shooting 80-85 percent from the line. They were a very tall team – 6-1, 6-2 girls. They shot seven 3s. We made adjustments at halftime and shut down the 3.”

Steele Canyon:  Jules Loibl 18, Ashley Tavizon 14, Marianna Martinez 6, Mya Cross 4.

SOLDOTNA 50, EL CAJON VALLEY 15 – El Cajon Valley was shut out in the first quarter and never regained its offensive stance as Soldotna took over Tuesday’s (Dec. 29) SoCal Holiday Prep Classic FIBA (Gold Division) game.
