SAN DIEGO (1-9-16) — The Grossmont College Griffins traveled to downtown San Diego Friday (Jan 8) looking to rebound from their loss Wednesday and also to sweep the Knights of San Diego City College as the Griffs previously won the last two meetings.
Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be as the Griffins couldn’t keep up as the Knights won easily 88-63.
It was quite the contest in the first half as both teams would go back and forth until the final four minutes when the Knights took a 3 point lead and used a 15-4 roll to go into the break leading 41-28. Helping things for the Knights was the fact that they managed to go to the line 14 times and make 12 foul shots and also they outboarded the Griffins 17-9.
Scoring wise the Griffins were led DANIEL McCOWN who did his best to keep things close as he punched in 11 of his team high 20 points including 3 treys by the break. He would go on to nail 5 threes on the night.
The second half started out with a bang for the Griffins as they came out on fire, putting together a 9-0 roll to pull within 41-37.
However, the Knights were able to put down the clamps defensively and hold the Griffins scoreless for about 6 minutes, which they would take advantage of and go on a monster roll of their own of 22-0 to lead 81-54.
