Cougars remain atop Hills League with shutout

 

 

Thursday, Feb. 4

Grossmont Hills League

Steele Canyon 2, Granite Hills 0 – Alyssa Warner made eight saves in goal and was named the Cougars’ player of the match in the win over the Eagles.

Seniors Serena Schwartz and Nicole Ramirez notched the markers for SC, while seniors Savanna Nager and Nicole Arce registered assists. The Cougars remain atop the Hills table with a 3-0-1 mark.

West Hills 3, Grossmont 0 – The Wolf Pack remained unbeaten at 13-0-7 and remain in second place in league. West Hills scored 37 minutes in, then added a pair of goals in the second half just five minutes apart in the 47th and 51st minutes.

Grossmont Valley League

El Capitan 8, Mount Miguel 1 – Kaitlyn Vance, a freshman, had two goals for El Capitan, while Brooke Flores, Emily Miller and Kaci Hoxsie were among the other six El Cap goal scorers.

Miller also registered three assists for the Vaqueros.

El Capitan improved to 4-1-1 in league, but stands third in the Valley.

Nonleague

West Hills 5, Santana 1 – The West Hills Wolf Pack scored three first-half goals for a 3-0 halftime lead and bounced the host Santana Sultans, 5-1. in Friday’s non-league game.

With the victory, West Hills moves its record to 12-0-6 on the year. The Wolf Pack travel to Granite Hills to battle the Eagles in a Grossmont Hills match on Tuesday, February 2.  Granite Hills won 5-1 in their recent league tilt against Grossmont.

In their next game, the Sultans face the Helix Highlanders in a Grossmont Valley League game, on Tuesday, February 2.  The Highlanders enter the game after their 3-0 league win over El Cajon Valley.

Thursday, Jan. 28

Steele Canyon 2, Valhalla 0 – Junior Shelby Wray and senior Samantha Nager scored for the Cougars, who are tied atop the standings with West Hills at 2-0-2.

Nicole Arce had an assist for SC, as did Nager. Alyssa Warner and April Peterson shared the goalie duties in the shutout for the Cougs. Junior Kaitlyn Stathas was named player of the match for Steele Canyon.

Granite Hills 5, Grossmont 1 – The Eagles got goals from Sarah Turner, Ally Fordham, Nayeli Rodriguez and Monica Navarro in the rout of the Hillers. Kaitlyn Turner had the other Eagles goal, while junior Megan Ellis had three assists.

Granite Hills is 2-1-1 and in third place in the Hills League and 13-3-2 overall. Amber Huff scored for Grossmont.

Helix 3, El Cajon Valley 0 – Helix scored twice in the second half on the way to the shutout. The Highlanders improved to 3-0-1, good for second place in the Valley standings. Helix is 8-3-3 overall.

Santana 2, El Capitan 1 – The Sultans led 1-0 at halftime as the Sultans improved to 8-4-2 on the season. Santana moved to 4-0 to stay atop the standings in the Valley League.

Mount Miguel 1, Monte Vista 0 – The Mount Miguel Matadors won Thursday’s away conference game against rival Monte Vista by a score of 1-0 to secure their first Valley League win of the season.

Mira Mesa 2, Christian 0 –  In Thursday’s league contest, the host Mira Mesa Marauders soccer squad scored a close 2-0 win over the Christian Patriots.

The Patriots (6-6-4) will now prepare for their meeting against Scripps Ranch. In its last game, Scripps Ranch got by Our Lady of Peace, 2-1, in a league battle.

Foothills Christian 3, Maranatha Christian 1 – Junior Kacey Butrovich scored two goals, while teammate Marisa Bradley also scored, as FCHS won. Both players also assisted on each other’s goals.

Foothills improved to 2-0 in the Ocean League, while MCHS fell to 2-1 in the key game so far this season.

Tuesday, Jan. 27

Steele Canyon 0, West Hills 0 – At West Hills High School, Shelby Wray was named player of the match for Steele Canyon in the tie with West Hills, while Alyssa Warner recorded a shutout in goal for the Cougars.
Valhalla 1, Granite Hills 0 – At Granite Hills High School, Stephanie Fox scored the goal and Valhalla goalie Katelyn De Went made five saves in the shutout, as the Norse upset No. 7 Granite Hills.
El Capitan 8, El Cajon Valley 0 – At El Cajon Valley High School, Brooke Flores scored three goals, while Emily Ruff scored two goals, as the Vaqueros won big.
Junior Anastasia Winsor had two goals and three assists, while junior Bailey McFarlane added two assists. Samantha McKenna also scored for EC.
Santana 4, Monte Vista 0 – The host Sultans scored three goals in the second half.

 

Monday, Jan. 26

Santana 3, Vista 1 – The Sultans led 2-0 at halftime.

West Hills 0, University City 0 – In a make-up game due to rain, The Wolf Pack remained unbeaten after a scoreless draw against the Centurions.

 

Friday, Jan. 22

Nonleague

Granite Hills 2, Santana 1 – The Eagles led 1-0 at halftime, as Ally Fordham and Nayeli Rodriguez scored for Granite Hills. Senior Karly Ironside and junior Megan Ellis had the assists.

Next, the Eagles confront the Valhalla Norsemen in a Grossmont Hills game, on Tuesday, January 26.  Granite Hills will attempt to move on its 11-2 season record. The Norsemen enter the game with a 7-4 record after their 0-0 league tie with West Hills.

The Sultans now possess a 5-4 record. They take the field next when they host Vista for a non-league game on Monday, January 25. Santana will confront a Panthers team coming off a 1-1 league tie against Sage Creek. The Panthers record now stands at 1-9.

Foothills Christian 5, Tri-City Christian 0 – Kacey Butrovich and Michaela Bradley both scored a pair of goals, while senior Marisa Bradley also scored for the Knights. FCHS led 3-0 at the half.

Butrovich added two assists, while Sierra Healy and Marisa Bradley also had assists.

Foothills Christian has a 7-2 record. They play next when they host Maranatha Christian for a Ocean game on Thursday, January 28.

Grossmont Valley League

El Cajon Valley 2, Monte Vista 1 – The Braves evened their league record at 1-1 with the win at home against the Monarchs.

El Cajon Valley improved to 7-5-1 overall.

Grossmont Hills League

Steele Canyon 2, Grossmont 1 – Nicole Osinelli-Rivers scored a goal and was the Cougars’ player of the match in the win over Grossmont. Jalyn Lupo, a sophomore, had a goal and an assist for SC, while senior Savanna Nager added an assist.

Sophomore Alyssa Warner had a clean sheet during her time in net, playing for just one half and making five saves.

Steele Canyon moved to 1-0-1, 6-4-4.

Valhalla 0, West Hills 0 – West Hills remained unbeaten, but host Valhalla, after losing to West Hills three weeks ago 1-0, earned the tie. The Wolf Pack are 1-0-1 in league and 11-0-4 overall, while Valhalla is 0-0-1, 7-4-3.

Valhalla has matches with Granite Hills and Steele Canyon next week.

 

Citrus League

Mountain Empire 4, Julian 2 – The Redhawks improved to 2-0 in league play, for sole possession of first place, and 4-4-2 overall.

Ocean League

Foothills Christian 3, Calvin Christian 0 – Foothills won its league opener and improved to 6-2-3 overall. FCHS led 1-0 at halftime.

Thursday, Jan. 14

Grossmont Valley League

El Capitan 6, Mount Miguel 0 – Samantha McKenna, a junior, scored three goals, while freshman Kaitlyn Vance added a pair of goals in the Vaqueros’ Valley opener over host Mount Miguel.

Senior Angelica Haynes had the other El Cap goal, while junior Bailey McFarland had two assists to lead the Vaqueros.

Senior Kaitlyn Hunt was in goal for the shutout. EC is 7-7-1.

Helix 8, Monte Vista 1 – The Highlanders overwhelmed the host Monarchs in Spring Valley.

The Highlanders (6-3) will now prepare for their game against Our Lady of Peace. The Pilots go into the non-league game with a 9-1 record.

The Monarchs (4-6) will now prepare for their game against El Cajon Valley. The Braves go into the Grossmont Valley game with a 5-5 record.

Santana 2, El Cajon Valley 0 – The Sultans now sport a 4-3 record. They play next when they host Mount Miguel for a Grossmont Valley test on Thursday, January 21. Santana will meet a Matadors squad coming off a 6-0 league loss to El Capitan. The Matadors record now stands at 3-7.

With the loss, El Cajon Valley drops to 5-5 on the season. The Braves host Crawford  to meet the Colts in a non-league test on Monday, January 18. The Colts come into the test with a record of 1-7.

Grossmont Hills League

West Hills 2, Grossmont 0 – The Wolf Pack led 1-0 at halftime and improved to 11-0-3 overall by capturing the Hills opener.

Steele Canyon (5-4-4) 1, Granite Hills (11-2-2) 1 – The Cougars led 1-0 at halftime in the league opener for both teams.

Nonleague

Valhalla 1, La Jolla 0 – Valhalla improved to 7-4-2 with the home win as Abby Serrano got the game-winner.

Foothills Christian 3, San Diego Jewish Academy 0 – Kacey Butrovich, a junior, had two goals, while senior Marisa Bradley also scored. Senior Hannah Debus had the shutout, turning away 15 shots. FCHS led 1-0 at halftime.

Tuesday, Jan. 12

West Hills 8, Mount Miguel 1 – Sydney Gilbert scored two goals for West Hills in the rout of the Matadors. Other goal scorers for the Wolf Pack were Taylor Wirsig, Kate Hodgetts, Savanha Vail, Taylor Gomez, Megan Birch and Courtney Velasquez.

Wirsig led the Pack with two assists, while Alyson McNearney, Hodgetts and Velasquez had assists.

Darby Zelaskowski had a scoreless half in goal for West Hills. Nina Miller scored for Mount Miguel.

 

Steele Canyon 4, El Capitan 0 – Savanna Nager scored two goals, while Leah Apablasa and Nicole Ramirez added the other goals for the Cougars (5-4-3). Alyssa Warner and April Peterson shared the goaltending duties in the shutout.

Steele Canyon captain Chiara Fishburne was reported as the Cougars’ Player of the Match.

Santana 2, Valhalla 1 – The Sultans led 1-0 at halftime and improved to 3-3-2.
Foothills Christian 4, Tri-City Christian 0 – Kacey Butrovich scored twice, while Abbie Debus and Nevileen Lee also scored for the Knights. Butrovich also had an assist, as did Sierra Healy.

Hannah Debus earned the shutout in goal for FCHS (3-2-3).

Scripps Ranch 5, Christian 2 – The Patriots trailed 2-1 at halftime, as Christian’s goals in the game came from junior Amara Harris and freshman Tenay Banegas.

Jaelyn Henige, a sophomore, had an assists for the Pats (4-4-3).

Monday, Jan. 11

Steele Canyon 0, Point Loma 0 – Cougars’ goaltenders Alyssa Warner, a sophomore, and April Peterson, freshman, combined on the shutout. Peterson had seven saves, while Warner made four stops. Steele Canyon is now 4-4-3.

The win improves the Eagles to 10-2-1.

West Hills 1, El Capitan 0 – Kate Hodgetts scored for the Wolf Pack in the win over the host Vaqueros in Lakeside on Thursday.

Foothills Christian 6, Horizon 0 – Kacey Butrovich scored five goals and added an assist in the Knights’ drubbing of Horizon.

Abbie Debus scored the other goal for FCHS, while Skylar Sundblad, along with Michaela and Marisa Bradley, all added assists.

Hannah Debus made three saves in goal to get the shutout.

Tuesday, Jan. 5

Steele Canyon 4, Mount Miguel 0 – Shelby Wray, Nicole Van Sickle and Anna Belliard scored for Steele Canyon. Another goal for the Cougars came from Zoe Papike. Assists for SC came Papike, Savanna Nager, Jada Williams and Sarah Fragoso. Steele Canyon got a shutout in goal by Alyssa Warner.

Granite Hills 4, El Capitan 1 – Sam De La Torre, Emery Churchill, Clara Schedule and Monica Navarro scored for the Eagles, while juniors Ally Fordham and Megan Ellis each had an assist, as did senior Nayeli Rodriguez.

Granite Hills led 3-1 at halftime.

Granite Hills 5, Patrick Henry 1  – Against Patrick Henry, the Eagles’ Ally Fordham registered 3 goals, while Monica Navarro came home with a goal and Clara Scheidle also had a goal.

Granite Hills got assists from senior Sam De La Torre, Nayeli Rodriguez, Navarro and Scheidle.

Granite Hills led 2-1 at halftime.

Eagles, Highlanders win Lady Vaquero Tournament titles

LAKESIDE – The Granite Hills girls soccer team won the Lady Vaquero Tournament defeating Bonita Vista 3-0 in the finals at El Capitan High Monday afternoon.

The Eagles got two goals from junior Clara Scheidel and the other score came from junior Ally Fordham, who assisted on one of the Scheidel goals. The other assists came from senior Sarah Turner and junior Monica Navarro.

Senior Taylor Hoff got the shutout in goal for Granite Hills (7-2-1). Granite Hills led 1-0 at halftime.

The Eagles defeated the Barons, 3-1, on Saturday to set up the rematch.

Fordham scored in that match, as well, while the Eagles also got tallies from junior Megan Ellis and senior Nayeli Rodriguez. Fordham, Rodriguez and senior Madi Kurtz had assists in the victory.
