SANTEE – The Wolf Pack put together a 10-run third inning to bowl over Brighton, Colo., 13-2, in Monday’s (Mar. 21) 66th Annual Lions Tournament 5A Division contest.

JEREMIAH BARR was 2-for-3 including a grand slam for West Hills.

“It was really, really nice to see Barr get a dead center field homerun with a very nice, proper swing, with very little effort,” said West Hills coach MICKEY DEUTSCHMAN.  “Everyone was overjoyed, including the coach.”

RANDY JEWELL was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI for the Pack.

“It was nice to see the boys reap some of the benefits of hard work and for a short-lived as a program as we are for the fundamentals and execution – it honestly is beginning to pay off,” said Deutschman.

“I guess it’s hard to come from a -4 to maybe a +4 in a short period of time. There are still a few on the fence who have not bought in to the program yet, but in time I think they will, because only seeing is believing.”

AARON BARKLEY pitched two innings with 5 strikeouts and allowed only one hit.

CLAYTON LEWIS also pitched two innings with 4 strikeouts, one hit and one earned run.

“It was great to see Barkley give us a good head start and we were able to get him out of the game to rest and be available for the rest of the tournament.  So the victory was great and will continue on from here. We have a long way to go but the future looks bright.

“I told the boys before you are really going to win ball games because of bunts and you will lose games because of the lack of bunts.  We laid down three bunts today that were absolutely phenomenal. One was a squeeze that scored two.  The others were executed perfectly so horray for the ballclub.”

CATHEDRAL 7, EL CAPITAN 5 – El Capitan failed to connect with the key hit in Monday’s (Mar. 21) 66th Annual Lions Tournament Classic Division game at Cathedral, and thus came up short against the Dons.

It was a shootout for the first four innings as the teams were tied at 2-2. The Vaqueros scored in the first inning on a base hit by KENNY OLHAUSER who stole second and eventually scored on a passed ball.

The Dons edged in front 2-1 after three innings.

El Capitan tied the contest in the fourth as MYLES EMMERSON doubled. He advanced to third on a base hit by VICTOR CARLINO and scored on a single by DAWSON McCLANAHAN to tie the game at 2.

The roof fell in on the Vaqueros in the fourth inning as the Dons punched across 4 runs.

El Capitan attempted a comeback in the sixth, including an RBI single by McClanahan.

In the seventh inning with two outs, Olhauser singled and eventually scored on back-to-back wild pitches.

EASTLAKE 5, GRANITE HILLS 3 – The Eagles’ offense continued to sputter on Monday (Mar. 21) as they came up short against visiting Eastlake in the 66th Annual Lions Tournament Classic Division contest.

What offense Granite Hills did generate came in the second inning on RBI doubles by JOSH VERDON and BLAKE ST. CLAIR and a single by TREVOR OMAHEN.

At the time of that uprising the Eagles tied the game at 3-3.

Eastlake pushed across single runs in the fourth and fifth to claim the victory.

ANDREW BROWN was roughed up for 11 hits and four earned runs but struck out 6 and walked only one in 6 2/3 innings for the Eagles.

For Eastlake Julian Escobedo turned in an overpowering complete game performance with 12 strikeouts.
