Griffins just have one of those days in loss to Mesa

EL CAJON (4-1-16) — The Shirelles had a hit in 1961 with the title Mama Said. The very first line of that song goes “Mama said there’ll be days like this.”

Those words rang true on Thursday (Mar. 31) when the San Diego Mesa Olympians came to Noel Mickelsen Field and pitched and hit their way to a 9-0 victory over the eighth ranked Grossmont College Griffins in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference game.

Sixth place Mesa (9-16, 5-9 PCAC) would take a lead they would not relinquish in the third inning.

The Olympians would tack on single runs in the fourth and ninth innings. Between those innings, the seventh inning saw them score two and a four spot in the eighth.

Grossmont (18-8, 11-3 PCAC) only managed to get four hits on the day. Only once did a runner get to second base.

The week-long series concludes today (Fri, April 1) with a game at Mesa Stadium at 2 p.m.
