MORLEY FIELD (4-6-16) — The Grossmont College Griffins allowed three runs in the bottom of the sixth, as San Diego City earned a 5-4 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference game win in Balboa Park.

Both teams collected eight hits.

ALAN STRONG (7-1, Santana) suffered his first loss of the season after allowing five runs on seven hits and a pair of free passes over his five and 2/3rds innings pitched.  He also registered his eighth game of five or more strikeouts this season.

NOAH STROHL (La Jolla) had a game-high three hits in five at bats.

TANNER PERRY (Steele Canyon) was hit by an inside pitch to begin the game.  ROBERT BOSTEDT (Granite Hills) drew a walk to put runners on first and second without the aid of a hit.  Perry was subsequently caught stealing as the backend of a strike ‘em out-throw ‘em out double play.  Strohl then got the no-hitter out of the way with a single to center that brought Bostedt home for a 1-0 Griffin (19-9, 12-4 PCAC) lead.  After a wild pitch allowed Strohl to get to second, JUSTEN BURKEY doubled to the left field wall to allow Strohl to score the second run of the game for the Green and Gold.

City (12-9, 7-5 PCAC) scored twice in the bottom of the frame to tie the game up at 2-each.

In the third inning, Bostedt walked to begin the frame.  TRAVOR BEARD (San Clemente) walked to push the right fielder to second.  Strohl singled up the middle to score Bostedt and give the Griffins a 3-2 lead.  Beard was thrown out trying to get to third.

Three innings later, JUSTIN MITCHELL (Granite Hills) doubled to left to begin the threat.  He would move up to third on a ground out for the first out of the inning.  MICHAEL DIFFLEY (Granite Hills) singled through the left side to allow Mitchell to make it 4-2 Grossmont.

The Knights would score the previously mentioned three runs in the bottom of the frame to take the eventual winning score of 5-4.

Grossmont would not be able to get a runner past second the rest of the day.

The same two teams will continue their series on Thursday (April 7) at Noel Mickelsen Field at 2 p.m.
