2016 EAST COUNTY PREP SOFTBALL

Rancho San Diego (4-9-16) — The Cougars attacked early and often in the Hills/Valley crossover contest as the Steele Canyon Cougars bit the visiting Monte Vista Monarchs 11-0, Friday (Apr. 8) in 5 innings.
The Cougars scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning as JJ VENZOR (2-2, 2 R) knocked in a run, MAKAYLA STROMENGER (3-3, 3 RBI, R, 2 2B) doubled in a run as well as MAKAYLA MCCARTHY (3-3, 2 RBI, 2 2B). The other run came via a fielder’s choice. Steele Canyon after the first inning led 4-0. The second inning was more of the same as Stromenger banged another double knocking in two runs, a sacrifice fly by EMMA DODSON scored another run and the other two runs came via another two run double by McCarthy. When it was all said and done they pushed across five more runs to extend their lead to 9-0.
Steele Canyon pitching led by McKayla McCarthy who tossed all 5 innings gave up 0 runs on 5 hits while walking 2 and fanning 5 Monarchs on the day. The win was the 7th on the season for McCarthy.
The other two runs by the Cougars came in the bottom of the third inning as AUDREY BAGGE (2-4, R) singled and would score on the double by SAMANTHA MILLER (2-3, 2 R, 2B) who came into score on a grounder.

Christian 11, Escondido Charter 4 — The Patriots took on the host Escodidio Charter and were able to come away with the 11-4 victory, Friday (Apr. 8).
Christian pushed across a run in the top of the first inning as SILENT RAIN ESPINOZA (4-5, RBI, 2 R, 2 2B, SB) singled and a couple of batters later would score on a groundout by ASHLEY CARTER (2-3, 2 RBI, R) to make it 1-0. Escondido Charter tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the first. They led 3-1 as they pushed across a couple more runs in the bottom of the third inning.
The Patriots were able to retake the lead for good in the top of the fourth as they scored four runs to take a 5-3 lead, ALEXA HENDERSON (1-1, RBI, R) laced an RBI single as part of the onslaught. They tacked on another run in the top of the fifth when Carter doubled and scored on the sacrifice fly by SHANNON MCMAHON (2-4, 3 RBI) to make the score 6-3. Christian finished up their scoring by pouring in 5 runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Garnering the victory for the Patriots was Carter who tossed the complete game, giving up 4 runs of which all were earned on 5 hits, walked 1 and struck out 5.
Grossmont 19, El Cajon Valley 0 — The host Grossmont Foothillers made short work of the visiting El Cajon Valley Braves as they beat them in a Hills/Valley crossover 19-0 in 5 innings, Friday (Apr. 8).
Leading the way for Grossmont was a variety of players including AMBER ALLMAN who went 4-5 and knocked in 4 runs, JESSICA WILSON who went 3-4 and had 5 RBI and also TAYLOR BAEZ who went 2-4 and knocked in 3 RBI on the day.
Getting the victory in the contest was JESSICA SCHOEN who tossed the 5 inning complete game, she struck out 12 Braves on the day in the process.
