Willis-Brown scores four TDs in Monarchs’ rout

SAN DIEGO – Coach RON HAMAMOTO’s Monarchs put a statement on the season as they steamrollered over host Hoover, 51-0, Friday night (Aug. 26) in the season opener for both teams.

RASHAUN WILLIS-BROWN scored four touchdowns for the Monarchs as they crushed the Cardinals.

Monte Vista posted its previous shutout of 46-0 against El Cajon Valley in 2013 and rolled to a 57-7 rout of the Braves in 2014.

“This isn’t the same team that Hoover has had in the past,” said Hamamoto. “But I think we looked pretty sharp.”

According to Hamamoto, Hoover did not generate a single first down.

“This was a pretty good start,” Hamamoto added.

Monarchs senior JUNIOR PITOAU made his debut at quarterback, replacing transfer DENIS DAHLIN, who is now at Valhalla.

Pitoau spent the evening dealing handoffs as Monte Vista did not attempt a single pass.

Brothers JAHMON MCCLENDON and JAMEZ MCCLENDON anchored the Monte Vista defense against Hoover.

Willis-Brown scored on a 47-yard sweep to the right to make it 7-0 in the first quarter. He later added a 10-yard score that extended the lead to 22-0.

Monte Vista’s modified wing-T run game befuddled Hoover.

Later in the first half, Willis-Brown scored on a 30-yard touchdown run as he finished with 117 yards before halftime.

The Hoover offense was not able to move the ball downfield for the entire first half against Monte Vista’s first unit, while the Cards’ defense was no match for Monte Vista’s modified wing-T running game.

Jahmon McClendon, JONATHAN GULLEY and AMIR CONLEY also scored touchdowns for the Monarchs.

The Monarchs next face the Christian Patriots and Monte Vista gave some of Christian’s coaches in attendance a lot of run footage to look at.
