EL CAJON (10-15-16) — Junior quarterback JOSH SIEGFRIED has ignited the Granite Hills offense over the last two weeks for a total of 71 points and a pair of victories including Friday’s (Oct. 14) non-league 34-21 knockout of visiting Hilltop (4-2).

Against the Lancers, Siegfried completed 12 of 22 passes for 221 yards and 3 touchdowns. Furthermore, the Granite Hills field general rushed for 110 yards and a score on 13 carries.

“Offensively we’ve really improved our passing game, and that’s helped expand our running game,” said Granite Hills coach KELLAN COBBS.

Siegfried produced 331 yards total yards.

“Jake has thrown the ball down the field really well,” Cobbs said. “He’s making good choices and outstanding reads. He knows when to pass and when to run.”

Siegfried spread his passes among seven receivers in the Hilltop win.

GUSTAVO GUTTIEREZ set the pace with 4 catches for 73 yards and a touchdown. NOAH JOUBERT caught a 29-yard scoring strike from Siegfried, and MASHAL WASIMI hauled in a 23-yard touchdown pass.

On the defensive side defensive lineman Joubert forced a fumble and created a sack for the Eagles (3-4).

The Eagles capitalized on a pair of fumbles in the second half to help turn the game into a 38-14 Granite Hills advantage.

CAMERON BARNES made one of the recoveries, while ETHAN RAYMOND had the other.

After the Lancers closed the gap to 24-12, the Eagles took advantage of a short field and scored a touchdown on a 9-yard keeper up the middle by Siegfried, as he got his line to work in unison on the draw. Seniors CHANCE ALIM, MARTIN SAMINEGO and KALVIN SANDERS, along with junior GARRETT CURRAN, had a pretty strong night up front.

In the third, Siegfried found a wide-open Joubert in the right side of the end zone after the QB looked off the safety and Joubert had easily slipped behind his man for a 29-yard TD.

Senior defensive back ZACH STORER made a couple of key second-half plays for the Eagles.
