MISSION BAY – It has literally pained Foothills Christian senior DANIEL HOFFMAN to miss most of his senior season due to a string of injuries.

After all, he looked to be a integral part of the Knights growth in 8-man football, in which the FCHS program turned around a one-win program just two seasons ago into a CIF finalist on Friday night.

But he played in the culmination against Calvary Christian and was able to help lead Foothills Christian High to a 44-38 win over the Crusaders at Mission Bay High School.

FOOTHILLS CHRISTIAN LINES UP FOR A PLAY AGAINST ALVARY CHRISTIAN FRIDAY NIGHT AT MISSION BAY HIGH.

Senior running back CALEB TARVER scored four consecutive long touchdowns for the Knights, who claimed the Commissioner’s Cup as champs of Division 6.

Hoffman, who passed for over 1,800 yards last season, played in just three games this season for the most part prior to Friday night’s final.

But he’s been there painstakingly watching every other game this season as the Knights kept winning… and winning… and winning, since losing to this same Calvary team, 38-24 on Sept. 2.

Senior night was the toughest for Hoffman, who stood before the Knight’s helmet wondering how he might have contributed on the field had he been healthy enough to play.

GARRETT BANKHEAD knows of Hoffman’s talents.

The fellow senior caught a 26-yard touchdown pass to give the Knights a 44-32 lead.

Tarver, a senior, had a 58-yard touchdown run early for the first score, but Calvary came back to take a 12-8 lead. The Foothills back then scored three 54-yard touchdown runs in a back-and-forth game which featured co-big runs by the Crusaders’ Jordan Thomsen.

JOSH GATES had a 35-yard touchdown run, as the Knights regained the lead, 38-32, with three minutes left in the third quarter. He also rushed in four 2-point conversions.

The tackling on these guys resembled a family co-ed Turkey Bowl game.

Knights sophomore JADON BANKHEAD had an interception to set up Foothills’ key drive that extended the lead.

Hoffman completed a pass to Garrett Bankhead with a game-sealing connection late to earn a final set of downs.

The second-seeded Knights (11-1) finished the season with 10-straight wins, while the No. 1 seed Calvin Christian (9-1) was the defending 8-man champ.
