CHULA VISTA (2-12-17) — El Cajon Valley star LEANNA WATSON scored 44 points, hitting 3 of 9 treys and 11 of 19 free throws, while also grabbing 9 rebounds, shoveling off 3 assists and making 8 steals in Saturday’s (Feb. 11) Presidents’ Day Invitational win over Rock Academy at Mater Dei Catholic.
SUMAYA HAMEED spun a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Braves, who cracked the Rock in a non-league game.
LILLIAN AKINTENDE grabbed a game high 10 rebounds, while RANIA NOORI snared 8 boards.
“Leanna Watson refused to lose this game tonight,” said Braves coach CARLOS MOSS. “She told me after the game ‘I refused to lose this game.’
“We came out and played hard, and I was really proud of them.”

MOUNT MIGUEL 76, MATER DEI CATHOLIC 55 – On Tuesday (Feb. 14), West Hills will battle Mount Miguel at 6 p.m. in the Wolf Pack’s gym in a showdown for the Grossmont Hills League championship.
A win by the Lady Matadors will give them the outright title, while a win by the Wolf Pack would create a co-championship.
In the meantime, the Matadors looked to SATERA BATES, who poured in 29 points against Mater Dei Catholic in Saturday’s (Feb. 11) Presidents’ Day Invitational tuneup.
CAMARA DOUGLAS added 25 points and 17 rebounds.
TIAJA BENNETT was big on the boards with 12 rebounds.
