Griffins’ unbeaten string reaches seven

EL CAJON – The Grossmont Griffins stormed past Southwestern, 9-1, to extend their unbeaten string to seven games on Tuesday afternoon.
The Griffins bats were silent for the first six innings, but then busted into the Jaguars’ bullpen for all nine runs over their final two at-bats.
Grossmont broke through in the seventh, as REECE HERNANDEZ snapped a 1-1 game with a single to score MICHAEL DIFFLEY.
NOAH STROHL then followed with a two-run double to left center, scoring Herandez and DAVID MALDONADO for a 4-1 advantage. Strohl was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a triple.
Grossmont added five in the eighth.
JUSTIN BURKEY had two hits, scored twice and drove in a run for the Griffins, who improved to 4-0 in confernce play and 9-5-1 overall.
Grossmont continues to the week-long series with Southwestern on the road this Thursday at 2 p.m.
Freshman HAYDEN SHENEFIELD earned the win with 1 1/3 innings of relief after a solid outing by starter TIM HOLDGRAFER.
Former West Hills standout JEREMIAH BARR, a freshman left-hander, picked up his third save of the season.
