SAUGUS (4-8-17) — The Christian High Patriots, who are on a so-called vacation junket, scored 3 runs in the first inning against the Saugus Centurions and held on for the non-conference victory 4-2 in Friday’s (Apr. 7) contest.
“This was one of those bonding trips,” said Christian coach MIKE MITCHELL, whose team will spend Saturday (Apr. 8) riding the rails at Six Flags Magic Mountain.
In the first inning, Christian took the lead as ZACH HOGUEISSON and GARRETT NIELSEN walked.
JUSTIN LEDGERWOOD singled in a run following a wild pitch.
After two more walks, BRAD JEREMIAH singled in another run. An RBI double by DAVID JOSEPHSON capped the Patriots’ scoring.
Pitcher JOE MARKOWICZ limited the Centurions to one earned run in 6 2/3 innings and struck out 6.
JESSE MATTHEWS came out of the bullpen to gain the final out for his 5th save.
Nobody had more than one hit.
“We came up here to win a ballgame,” said Mitchell, “but the kids plan to have plenty of fun.”
