Patriots make some noise in opener

CHRISTIAN 70, HIGH TECH CHULA VISTA 10 – Sophomore guard SIMONE JAMES scored the Patriots first 12 points and 18 of her team’s first 20 in a rout of the Bruins.

The Patriots led 10-0 out of the gate, then later, Christian junior guard JASMYN CRAWFORD scored back-to-back buckets to extend the lead to 35-6.

Crawford finished with 12 points.

Senior HAYLEY ROBINSON had 11 rebounds for the Pats.

Christian is under the guidance of new head coach VICKIE CARRINGTON, the former athletic director and head girls basketball coach at now-defunct Horizon Christian.

 

MOUNT MIGUEL 60, WESTVIEW 44 – The Matadors are already off to a 3-0 start following the win over Westview.

Junior wing CAMARA DOUGLAS led the Matadors with 24 points, while junior guard MICHELLE CORLEY added 11 points for Mount Miguel.

Mount Miguel trailed after one, and led by just two at halftime, but extended the lead to four after three quarters.

However, in the fourth, the Matadors outscored the Wolverines 17-5 over the final eight minutes.

MOUNTAIN EMPIRE 45, VINCENT MEMORIAL 30 – Juinor KAREN CORTEZ led the Red Hawks with 10 points.

Mountain Empire (1-0) hosts Liberty Charter on Friday at 5.

 

CHULA VISTA 55, EL CAJON VALLEY 16 – The Spartans handed El Cajon Valley (1-1) a defeat in the Matador Classic.

Senior DANIA ELIA led the Braves with five points.

The Braves play Montgomery in a tournament game on Monday at home at 7.
