ROUNDUP: Eagles, Matadors net tourney wins

GRANITE HILLS 64, SAN PASQUAL 41 – The Eagles’ MCKAY ROBERTS had 21, including three three-pointers, and XAVIER SMITH stepped up the scoring with 15 points, as Granite Hills clipped the Golden Eagles on the road at the Santana Shootout.

MOSES SMITH had nine points for the Eagles, while teammate DAVID COFFEY added six points.

“We came out with good energy,” Granite Hills coach DAN DUFFY said. “Xavier Smith  really tough on both ends of the coury. RAY CUERO had a solid game, as well.”

 

MOUNT MIGUEL 75, MORSE 59 – DERON TRAYLOR had 20 points, including four three-pointers in the first half, and MARQUISE EDWARDS added 15 as the Matadors won at home in a Matador Classic game.

The Matadors put up 29 points in the first quarter, as Traylor his three of his long-range shots.

MCKEESE DUNBAR and JAMES ALLEN both added 10 points for Mount Miguel.

 

LIBERTY CHARTER 50, CALVIN CHRISTIAN 43 – Liberty senior GABE GRIMM poured home 24 points and the host Lions built a 30-12 lead at halftime, only to hold on against Calvin.

Grimm made 11 free throws as part of his point total.

Lions junior DAVID MILLER came home with 10 points as Liberty stopped the momentum in the fourth.

 

OTAY RANCH 73, HELIX 71 (3 OT) – The Highlanders’ JAYLEN HINSON scored 24 points, including four three-pointers, but Helix lost to Otay Ranch at the Hilltop Tournament in a buzzer-beater in triple overtime.

Otay Ranch hit some deep three-pointers.

“I was proud of the way our guys kept fighing back,” Helix interim coach BRENNAN CASSADY said.

Helix trailed at halftime and at the start of the fourth quarter.

“Our two senior leaders – AMARI GREEN and JALEN HINSON – did a great job keeping us in the game and leading guys with little or no varsity experience,” Cassady said.

AMARI GREEN added 15 points and JAVON DAVIS added 12 points for the Scotties.

 

FOOTHILLS CHRISTIAN 72, RANCHO VERDE 51 – The No. 1-ranked Knights picked up their first win of the season in their final matchup in the BattleZone.

Foothills Christian returns to action to face Canyon Crest on Fri., Dec. 15th at the Grossmont Invitational.

 

HOOVER 63, EL CAPITAN 54 – The Vaqueros’ JACOB PFITZNER had 15 points, while CHASE LOVATO added 13, but El Capitan lost at home in the Game On Challenge.

The Vaqueros (0-2) travel to 2-0 San Marcos for a 7 p.m. game on Monday.

 

SAN MARCOS 70, GROSSMONT 57 – ADAM ODOM led the Foothillers with 20 points, including six three-pointers, while teammate DAISEAN CRAWFORD added 13 and RODRIGUEZ added 12, however, Grossmont lost at home in the Game On Challenge.

MYKOL RODRIZGEZ added 12 points for the Hillers.

 

MATER DEI CATHOLIC 72, WEST HILLS 53 – CAMERON BARRY scored 30 points for the Wolf Pack, but the Crusaders grabbed the Horsman Automotive Tournament game.

West Hills’ MICHAEL TOTAH and ADAM DILLON both contributed eight points.
