Patriots knock off Torrey, stay unbeaten

EL CAJON (12-2-2017) – The visiting Falcons from Torrey Pines arrived at the Christian High gymnasium bringing with them a 1-1 record in non-conference play, losing their opener to Mater Dei Catholic, but were ready for a second victory in a row after coming off a 48-43 win over the Poway Titans at the Tip-Off Classic.

The Lady Patriots of Christian High had other plans in mind, knocking off the Falcons, 61-52, Saturday night.

The Lady Patriots came into this contest with an undefeated 2-0 record, defeating both High Tech Chula Vista and Brawley by a combined score of 132-30.

By the way Falcons fans, be prepared to be entertained and also be amazed at the athleticism displayed by the Patriots.

The 1st quarter looked like the Patriots really had something to prove and keep that non-conference undefeated record intact as the Patriots led 21-8 through the first quarter of play.

However, the Falcons found the second quarter as a time to goose the throttle, as they picked up 15 points and held the Patriots to 16 by playing better defense.

The score at intermission, Lady Patriots 37-23.

After the half, the Falcons continued their defense and scoring, driving the ball and keeping it close at the end of the third, scoring 14 and holding Christian to only 15 points in the 3rd.

Christian had had enough of the Falcons sticking around, holding the Falcons to 9 in the final quarter
of play and scoring 15 of their own.

The Patriots finished off Torrey Pines as freshman KRISTIN WILLIAMS was among the top performers for the Lady Patriots leading Christian in points scored with 27, dishing out 8 assists, recording 7 steals, and grabbing 3 rebounds. She had 5 two-pointers and 5 3-pointers made.

SIMONE JAMES scored 20 points, had 13 rebounds, including 9 field goals, but 2-of-8 from the free throw line.

“it was an outstanding performance by the freshman phenom,” said Christian head coach Vicki Carrington. “(Williams) played both sides of the court tenaciously.”

Other standouts included HANNAH RICHARDSON, who had 5 points and 7 rebounds, and HALEY ROBINSON, who was being consistent with her help on the boards, grabbing down 5.

The Lady Patriots will face Calipatria on Monday December 4th at 7:30 pm at Christian, as they are the
home team in the tournament.

Calipatria comes in at 1-0 after beating conference foe Vincent Memorial on the 28th, 47-18.
