SAN DIEGO – The Christian High girls basketball team let Maranatha Tournament opponent Calipatria hang around in the opening minutes of their contest on Monday night.
But the Lady Patriots eventually turned an early 7-6 lead into another blowout victory, knocking of the Hornets, 72-26.
Christian improved to 4-0 on the young season.
Freshman star KRISTEN WILLIAMS scored 31 points, nailing eight three-pointers in the contest.
She came out scorching the net in the first quarter with five shots from downtown.
Sophomore forward SIMONE JAMES scored all of her 15 points in the second quarter before taking the second half off, as the Patriots played a whole host of players. She had six first-half rebounds.
Sophomore guard RAELYN MUECA added 12 points for the Patriots, while senior guard BRITTANY TATE had six steals for the Pats.
Christian High senior HALEY ROBINSON had a team-high seven rebounds.
The Patriots continue play in the event today at Maranatha where they will face Orange Glen.
BISHOP’S 66, STEELE CANYON 23 – The Cougars fared pretty well against the talented county seventh-ranked Knights, trailing just 20-10 after one at the Matador Classic.
Steele Canyon (0-3) will meet Chula Vista (1-2) tonight in another Matador Classic game. This one will be a 7 p.m.
MIRA MESA 61, GRANITE HILLS 18 – Tenth-ranked Mira Mesa gave the Lady Eagles a rough time at the San Diego Hoops Report Tournament.
Granite Hills (0-4) will face Mar Vista in a San Diego Hoops Report Tournament game tonight at 7 p.m.
