Hillers kick it out to guards for win

2017 EAST COUNTY PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL

EL CAJON – The Grossmont Foothillers rolled to their second-straight win to open the 2017-18 season by downing the host Valhalla Lady Norsemen, 50-30, in a Grossmont Conference non-league matchup on Thursday night.

It was the season-opener for Valhalla.

Five-foot-9 sophomore guard SARAH HENRY had another strong scoring performance, tallying 19 points, while senior guard CANDACE HENDERSON had 18 points.

Foothillers senior forward EMILY BARNES ended up doing quite a bit of facilitating with a team-high nine assists. She also scored six points.

Grossmont senior forward JAZMINE LEE also was kicking it back to the guards, as she had seven assists to go along with seven points.

Henry also had five assists and three blocks, while sophomore teammate AMELIA ELLIOTT had three assists and two blocked shots.

Henderson had six blocks.

The Foothillers are off for nearly two weeks, next back in action against High Tech Chula Vista on the road on Dec. 20 at 7 p.m.

The Lady Norsemen play Mar Vista (2-2) next Tuesday at 6 p.m.

 

 

 

CORONADO 54, MONTE VISTA 24 – The Islanders won by pulling away on the island after the Lady Monarchs came out strong and led 8-7 after one quarter.

Coronado outscored Monte Vista 16-6 in the second quarter, then really stormed out in the second half, outscoring the Monarchs 20-3 in the third.

The Monarchs limited Coronado to around 35 percent from the field.

Monte Vista (0-3) is next up at the Steele Canyon Lady Cougar Classic in a home game on Saturday at 4:30.
