EL CAJON – The El Cajon Valley Braves and coach CARLOS MOSS have had to revamp their lineup this season, but the work and effort paid off in a 62-15 win over O’Farrell at the Bonita Vista tournament on Thursday.
Sophomore VEAN GORGEES, the Braves’ new go-to star, scored a career-high 24 points, including four three-pointers.
El Cajon Valley freshman center SILVA ABOUD was big on the boards with 19 rebounds and scored eight points.
Braves junior LILIAN AKINTONDE handed out eight assists.
The Braves improved to 3-6 on the season. El Cajon Valley also dropped a tournament contest to 14th-ranked Bishop’s.
El Cajon Valley plays one of the top teams in SDCIF Division 3 in the San Diego Cavers (5-1) in another Bonita Vista tourney matchup at 6 p.m. on Friday.
EL CAMINO 53, EL CAPITAN 52 (OT) – In a So Cal Holiday Prep Classic game at the Vaqueros’ gym, the Wildcats pulled out a thriller in overtime.
MACKENZIE CURTIS had 19 points for El Capitan, while SERENE WECKBACK added 18.
Curtis had three three-pointers in the first half.
El Camino outscored El Capitan, 4-3, in the extra session.
KYLIE MEAD scored six of her seven points in the second half for the Lady Vaqueros.
At the So Cal Holiday Prep Classic, El Capitan has a home tournament game versus Sage Hill (6-5), Newport Beach, on Friday at 8 p.m.
MOUNT MIGUEL 59, TORRANCE 47 – In the NCAA Silver Division of the So Cal Holiday Prep Classic, the county’s No. 1 team – the Mount Miguel Matadors – beat the Tartars from Torrance (5-5).
WEST HILLS 40, UNIVERSITY CITY 37 – The Wolf Pack won in a FIBA Division game at the So Cal Holiday Prep Classic.
West Hills (4-7) has a tournament game at Carlsbad on Friday at 5 p.m. in the San Diego Classic.
FALLBROOK 59, VALHALLA 41 – The Lady Norsemen dropped the contest to the Warriors in the Silver Division game of the So Cal Holiday Prep Classic.
ANGIE ORANGE had a steal and a bucket in the first half for Valhalla.
Orange finished with nine points.
Valhalla (1-7) faces Scottsdale Christian Academy, of Phoenix, on Friday at 8 in a So Cal Holiday Prep Classic game.
CANYON CREST 50, SANTANA 24 – The Sultans fell to 2-3 with a tournament loss on Thursday in the So Cal Holiday Prep Classic Blue Division.
CORONA DEL MAR 56, FOOTHILLS CHRISTIAN 34 – ELLIE TURK scored 20 points for the Knights in the So Cal Holiday Prep Classic Blue Division game.
Corona del Mar, out of the Pacific Coast League in the Southern Section. won for just the second time this season in 13 starts.
Foothills Christian faces Canyon Crest Academy Friday at 5 at the Holiday Prep Classic at Valhalla High.
