HELIX 2, WEST HILLS 1 – Highlanders senior JESUS CIGALA scored on a header with 30 seconds left in the game, giving Helix the 2-1 home win.
Helix remained in first place in the Grossmont Hills League with the victory over the Wolf Pack.
TONY DIAZ scored for West Hills in the first half, touching in a free kick that was deflected by the goalkeeper a few yards in front of the open goal mouth, which made the score 1-0.
It was the second time Helix has defeated West Hills by the same 2-1 score in league play this season.
Despite holding the league lead, Helix still has its work cut out with three of its final four games on the road.
GROSSMONT 3, STEELE CANYON 0 – Grossmont sophomore ANGEL REYES scored two goals to lead the second-place Foothillers to the Grossmont Hills League win over the visiting Cougars.
Grossmont junior CONNER SANCHEZ scored the other goal.
Grossmont senior LUKE MICHELSON assisted on two of the scores.
Senior RYAN ORTIZ assisted on one of the goals.
Grossmont seniors DEAN SCHWARTZ and NICHOLAS KOLINAS split the halves in goal, with each recording a pair of saves.
GRANITE HILLS 4, EL CAJON VALLEY 2 – Granite Hills remained alive in the crazy Grossmont Hills League championship race by beating the visiting Braves.
The Eagles improved to 3-2-1 and are currently in third place in the GHL.
MONTE VISTA 4, MOUNT MIGUEL 1 – Monte Vista earned in key Grossmont Valley League road win to stay within a half-game of first place.
Juniors ALLEN ALBA, NOAH BARTON and STEVE ZUNIGA scored for Monte Vista, as did sophomore GIOVANNI VELAZQUEZ.
Sophomore JUAN CASTILLO had two assists for Monte Vista.
Sophomore BRYCE KEMPTON was kept busy and had to make 10 saves in goal for the Monarchs.
FOOTHILLS CHRISTIAN 4, TRI-CITY CHRISTIAN 1 – Foothills Christian junior LUKE HUNTER scored two goals as the Knights improved to 3-0 in the four-team Ocean League
Sophomore JOE THOMAS and freshman JAKE SAFFER added the other goals for the Knights (7-6-1).
MOUNTAIN EMPIRE 1, CALVARY CHRISTIAN 1 – The Red Hawks got a goal from junior MANUEL MERCADO in a league tie.
