Matadors, Braves fall; Knights now 3-0

SPRING VALLEY – The Mount Miguel Matadors scored three consecutive touchdowns in the fourth quarter Friday night against always-strrong Santa Fe Christian, but the Matadors still fell short, 43-32, in a non-league game.

The Eagles would lead 14-0 after one quarter.

After another SFC TD, the Matadors’ ERIC GRAHAM scored on an 80-yard play, taking a screen from quarterback J.D. LAVERDIERE the distance.

Mount Miguel’s JAHEIM ALLEN caught a 53-yard touchdown pass from Laverdiere in the first half, as the Eagles led 28-12 at intermission.

Trailing by 30, Laverdiere and Allen connected on a long pass, then the quarterback had a 4-yard score, as he punched it in from the four for a Matador touchdown.

Mount Miguel’s LARRY YZAGUIRRE, a senior, had a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Laverdiere and Allen connected again for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, as the duo appears to be a formidable connection going forward.

EL CAJON – The Serra Conquistadors picked up their first win of the season at the expense of the host El Cajon Valley Braves Friday night.

Trailing 31-0 at halftime, El Cajon Valley quarterback JOE MALONE threw a short pass to BRANDON ROBINSON, who turned the play into a 38-yard gain early in the third quarter.

Senior linebacker DARRYL TAYLOR had a sack for the Braves.

El Cajon Valley will hit the road to take on the Sweetwater Red Devils next week.

FOOTHILLS CHRISTIAN 44, WEST SHORES 0

LA MESA – The Foothills Christian Knights scored 26 in the first quarter and led 34-0 at halftime against the visiting Wildcats in an 8-man game at Seau Field on Friday night.

The Knights will look for a 4-0 start next week right back here against Hesperia Christian at 7.
