Knights get memorable win on Senior night

LA MESA – In the most one-sided football victory in school history, the host Foothills Christian Knights didn’t simply defeat a doormat, they shocked the previously undefeated Royal Knights of Calvary Christian in a battle of the top two programs in the 8-man Ocean League At Seau Field.

Foothills Christian (4-2 overall, 2-0 Ocean) has strung together 116 unanswered points in a pair of league triumphs, including Friday Senior Night win.

The Knights broke the school marks for largest victory by shutout (previously 60-0 over Ocean View Christian in 2016), and most points in the game (previously 66 points on three occasions (twice vs. Warner over the past two seasons, and San Diego Jewish Academy in 2015).

BLAKE MCINTYRE, a sophomore, caught two touchdowns in the first half for the Knights. The plays went for 23 and 33 yards.

Junior KEVIN HELFERS also had a touchdown reception from 59 yards. Helfers also scored in the second half.

All of the passes came from junior quarterback TONY MROZ.

Senior DANIEL LYYJOKI had a touchdown in the first half, as did senior P.J. ZASTOUPIL as FCHS led 46-0 at halftime.

Junior HUNTER NICKEL and senior JADON BANKHEAD both had a pair of sacks in the first half for the Knights, while McIntyre led the defense in the first half with four tackles and had six overall.

Bankhead scored a 10-yard touchdown in the second half.
