SAN DIEGO – East County girls basketball fans got what they want, just not when they wanted it.

The Christian High Patriots will host the Mount Miguel Matadors in a rematch of their high-energy contest played just three weeks ago at Ryan Athletic Center.

The San Diego CIF Open Division contest will be played on Friday at 7.

The Patriots were out to show they weren’t going to let up in preparation for the tournament.

On Friday, Christian Patriots stomped on Serra, 70-23, to clinch their share of the Western League championship, even shutting out the Conquistadors over the final eight minutes, yet cordially took the foot off the pedal offensively.

Christian High has gone 19-1 in capturing consecutive league titles under head coach VICKIE CARRINGTON.

Now standing in their way of a second-straight section title are the Matadors.

The two teams played a terrific game game at Ryan Center back on Jan. 19.

The Patriots’ depth – led by sophomore KRISTIN WILLIAMS, junior SIMONE JAMES and senior YESI SMITH – and comfortable home court edge provided the margin over the heroics of section Player of the Year candidate SYLENA PETERSON, of the Matadors.

Peterson scored 32 points continuously maneuvering her way around the Patriots to the goal for an array of layups.

However, the Patriots made nine three-pointers to the Matadors’ three.
