BOYS: East teams can’t find wins

SANTEE – The Mt. Carmel Sundevils stopped the hot Monte Vista Monarchs, 82-45, in a Grossmont Tournament game at West Hills High on Thursday evening, ending the Monarchs’ three-game winning streak.

The Monarchs started strong enough as the game was deadlocked 17-all very early in the second quarter.

However, the Sundevils outscored Monte Vista, 22-10, in the second quarter.

In the second half, frustration set in for the Monarchs, who seemed more interested in getting technical fouls than using valuable court time to continue to work on their game.

Ivan Maynard scored 15 points to lead Monte Vista (6-3). He scored 13 of those in the first half.

Lavante Jenkins added 11 points for the Monarchs, including six of the Monarchs’ nine points in the fourth quarter, in which the Monarchs were outscored, 28-9.

Monte Vista was charged with four technical fouls in the game.

The Monarchs will meet Crawford on Friday night at 6 at the Crawford Tournament.

 

MIRA MESA 63, SANTANA 38 – Ethan Wolchko scored 17 points for the Sultans, who fell to 1-8.

The Sultans were trailing 18-13 after one period and were still behind just 27-20 at halftime.

However, the Marauders led 43-27 at the end of three quarters.

Santana will face fourth-ranked Torrey Pines at the Titan Challenge on Monday at 7 p.m.

 

MARANATHA CHRISTIAN 76, EL CAJON VALLEY 55 – The Eagles won the Grossmont Tournament game after leading, 40-22, at intermission.

The Braves, who fell to 2-7 overall, outscored the Eagles, 19-15, in the fourth quarter.

El Cajon Valley will host Victory Christian on Friday at 7 p.m.

 

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA YESHIVA 68, LIBERTY CHARTER 61 – The host Lions tailed 12-10 after one quarter and 33-28 at halftime.

The Lions fell to 2-7 overall.

Liberty Charter will face The Cambridge Schol in a home game on Tuesday at 6.
