Patriots stop Lancer 15-game win streak

Christian High gets ready to jump against Francis Parker on Saturday at Mission Bay High.

SAN DIEGO – The eighth-ranked Christian Patriots rallied back from 20 points down to beat fourth-ranked Francis Parker, 63-62.

It was a huge 20 hours for the Patriots, taking down No. 1 Cathedral Catholic on Friday before beating the Lancers on Saturday.

The win puts the Patriots more solidly in the Open Division playoff picture.

There were some issues late in the game with the game clock in the game that was played at Mission Bay High.

Parker led 42-28 at halftime, as Patrick Roberts led Christian with 10 points in the first half.

The Patriots scored the first six points of the second half.

Christian brought it to 42-41 after a short jumper by Jake Tawhiao.

Christian cut Parker’s lead to 48-44 heading into the fourth quarter.

Christian took a 52-51 lead early in the fourth quarter.

Christian led 56-54 with four minutes left in the game.

Then the Patriots led 58-54 with two minutes to play.

Christian led 60-59 with 27 seconds to play.

Christian has five losses this season. Three of them have come against St. Augustine, with another coming against Cathedral Catholic, and the other coming to Foothills Christian.

That means the Patriots’ losses have only come against teams that have been ranked in the top five for practically the entire season, with each of the three teams appearing at the No. 1 spot in the local media poll.

TORREY PINES 52, FOOTHILLS CHRISTIAN 43 – The Knights were knocked off by the Falcons at the Battle at the Bay event, hosted by the Mission Bay Bucs.

Nico Meza had 12 points for the Knights.

The score was just 4-2 in favor of the Falcons midway through the first quarter.

Torrey led 11-10 after the first period.

Foothills Christian led 26-24 at halftime, as Yassine Gharram had seven points for the Knights.

Torrey Pines led just 38-38 heading into the fourth quarter.
