2021 EAST COUNTY PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL
GROSSMONT 52, WEST HILLS 37
SANTEE – The Grossmont Foothillers improved to 3-0 in the Grossmont Hills League with a 52-37 victory over the West Hills Wolf Pack on Tuesday evening.
The Foothillers built a 34-17 by early in the third quarter and were never headed from there.
Grossmont was led by the scoring of senior Shyann VanKirk, who is battling through a back injury, and sophomore Domineece Silvels, who had 18 points and six rebounds.
“I felt like I really did step up my offense and defense in the second half,” Silvels said. “Injuries are, of course, a setback but as they say ‘next man up.’ Everyone is doing their part and is stepping up when called. It really did feel good to be a leader and I want to be able to do that every game if possible.”
Grossmont, which won its fourth consecutive game overall, improved to 7-3 overall.
West Hills, who remained competitive in the second half behind the scoring of senior Nolie Wiley and junior Katie Cares, fell to 6-7 overall and 1-2 in the GHL.
