WEST HILLS 72, LIBERTY CHARTER 27 – The new-look Wolf Pack, which graduated seven seniors from last season, had an enjoyable start to the campaign on Monday at the Del Lago Classic.

Returnee Luke Gibson, a junior, scored 25 points in the Wolf Pack’s season-opening blowout win over the Lions. Gibson has been a three-year starter now on the club.

The Wolf Pack led 15-2 after one quarter and 31-11 at halftime.

Zeid Salem, a junior, came home with 15 points.

“Although we are extremely young and inexperienced, we will be really long and lengthy,” West Hills head coach Tim Barry said. “What a fun group of kids just ready to get better and work.”

Sophomore Vince Hillsman added 10 points.

“It felt good to be back on the floor with the team,” Hillman said. “We have a lot to work on together. Luke did a great job finding spots to get his shots.”

Gibson scored 11 points in the first quarter.

“It was a great game to start off the season,” Gibson said. “Coach Barry is looking for me to lead now that I’ve been on the varsity the longest. Losing so many seniors will force me to step up and fill other roles. We are already seeing good chemistry and staying together as a family. This season, our team might be looked at as less of a threat but I believe this team is young with extraordinary potential, which will prove that the Pack is a threat on the floor.”

Salem finished off the Lions with his teammates by scoring 11 points in the second half.

“I think our new team did great,” Salem said. “It feels great to be on the court again playing with the Wolf Pack.
